In Israel, Japan, and I think, the Republic of China (Taiwan), as well any other heavily buddhist or muslim nation (where proselytizing or religious conversion may be against the law) like the Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Scientology is registered as a "Non-religious applied philosophy" and/or "self help counseling"-type business, that pays taxes like any other for-profit business. Which is a 180 degree turnaround from what they claim in the English and French-speaking world.
Scientology will claim to be whatever "status" that happens to be most convenient for it in whatever location it infests, and will turn on a dime and claim
a new completely different "status" when the old one
stops being convenient.
