NEWSFLASH! Since 18 May 2009, "Xenu's Loyal 4th Marcabian Invasion Fleet Ψ" team has collected 106,053 Credits from the SETI@HOME project.

That means that in 10 days we have skyrocketed to a very impressive amount of credits and must be breaking some sort of record for a team of our size.

We have, as of today, 44 Members but we need YOU on our team to garner major lulz.

I was made aware of a SETI (Search for Extra Terestial Intelligence) project where people with PC's download a bit of software from SETI so that the organization can utilize our CPU's to help search of ET's i.e. we end up searching for the Marcabian Fleet.

Anyway, according to the website this can be done as a Team...

Gentlemen, I am proposing (we are certain you can't get doxed) that you/us join the team "Loyal Marcabians Seti@home Distributed Computing Team " and give SETI a huge boost while at the same time creating a lulzy publicity stunt.

With the right press releases we could spin this into a very lulzy project that brings awareness to the public as well as sticks our thumb in the Scilons eye.

Teams get listed on the Berkley/SETI website and how much CPU time they have donated to help search for ET's. The listings allowed us to post some information about who/what we are in the profile so we are already informing the public as well as bringing the lulz.

Once we get at least over 9000 or a minimum of 50 Anons on the team we will let the Press releases fly, we have a publicity stunt that is certain to make news.

Here's the How To:
The name is easily changeable at any point, its only the team number that matters. Same for your user name, it is changeable and transferable to other teams so this isn't an issue.

It is REALLY simple and EASY to join & help!

A brief guide for installing and running the BOINC software, attaching to projects, and joining our team... Xenu's Loyal Marcabians (borrowed heavily from the BOINK wiki...)

1. Go to the BOINC website

2. Download the BOINC project manager software.
latest windows version...
all versions... Linux, Mac

3. Install the BOINC project manager software.
Choose single user, shared user, or service installation...
During installation, the manager may ask you if you want to attach to a project (I can't remember). Don't worry if you miss it during installation, you can attach to projects after you run the BOINC Manager
Windows installation...
Mac OS_X installation...
Linux installation...

4. Run the BOINC Manager software.
BOINC Manager overview...
It can be run in two modes...
Simple View...
Advanced View...

5. Attach to a project.
In Simple View mode - Click Attach to project button. Select "seti@home"
In Advanced Mode - Click Tools on the Menu Bar, select "Attach to project"
In either mode, a dialog box will pop-up with a dropdown list of the major active projects... just click the name "seti@home" (the link will take you to the project webpage) click "next"...

If you are new to the project, click the new user radio button (default), and enter your email address (an anon account) and choose a password... click next and if the attempt to attach was successful, the project will respond that you are attached...

If you are an existing user, click the existing user radio button, enter your email address and password... click next and if the attempt to attach was successful, the project will respond that you are attached...

6. Configure the client
Go to the project webpage (you can find a link from the "Projects" tab in the advanced view mode of the BOINC Manager)...
Click the "Your account" link or something to that effect... usually if you have navigated to the project page from the BOINC manager, you will arrive to the project page logged in (but not always - it does time out after a period)... Log in if necessary...
Set your Account Information... Email address and password are obvious... Other Account Information will allow you to change the nickname you use on the project (make sure your nicknames match on all of your projects, or some stats sites will be confused)
Set your Client Preferences... for how and when the client should run... you can pre-set up to 4 different useage profiles (default, home, school, and work)... you can override these preferences from within the BOINC manager itself with "run always" and "run never" options as well, available by clicking "Activity" in the menu bar...
Set your Community Preferences... heres where you will manage your team selection... if you attached to the project as a "new user", you will need to select a team here... click "find a team" and in the search keywords box, enter "Xenu's Loyal Marcabians"... click on "Xenu's Loyal Marcabians" and it will take you to a team information page... you must click "join this team" to do so... now under the community preferences it will indicate that you are a member of "Xenu's Loyal Marcabians"...

We've already got several members and several people waiting for the website updates to complete so that they can join the team and we NEED YOU. We're off to a great start but we need every Anon we can get to pull this off.

Once we have 50 members on the team (hopefully we'll have over 9000) and we start to accumulate points we will then work with Press-Release-Fags to get a very lulzy Press Release put together and inform all the media we can. I'm fairly certain we will get many Science magazines, newspapers, blogs, etc. to write about Anonymous using SETI to search for Xenu's Marcabian Space Fleet (or something along those lines) and we're going to try and get the Cobert Report to talk about it and maybe even other shows.

I can certainly imagine SNL doing a skit of Masked 1337 Haxxors trying to contact the Marcabian Fleet which naturally brings the Cult of Scientology into the skit/discussion which causes us to be in the news and the national conversation about Scientology to continue. This will also inform the world that we are still here and will continue to go after Scientology for all their crimes.

We're going to use lulz (and have fun creating the lulz) to bring the spotlight back to Scientology and expose all their nasty little tricks, crimes, lies and fraud to the world as well as hopefully making more people aware that we are here and they can help too by becoming anonymous.

UPDATE: We are up to 30 members and getting through the SETI tasks at an accelerated rate. Remember that this is for the lulz and once we reach 40 or 50 team members we'll be able to start putting together a press release and claim our over 9000 lulz.

Alot of people do as its the only way to crunch HUGE numbers right now. I had SETI running on my comp for a couple of years but stopped when started reinstalling Windows every month (before I discovered VMware). Its not a bad idea for anyone to do the SETI thing but combining in a group for those interested is a great idea even if it gets us no attention.

The true beauty of a self-inquiring sentient universe is lost on those who elect to walk the intellectually vacuous path of comfortable paranoid fantasies.

Well, I would love to do this but I would need /b/lackup because I think we need the lulz and with a press release we might get the science publications to take notice.

There's no such thing as bad publicity so even if it is just Science magazines I'm willing to take it.

If we do this lets come up with a team name and organize so that even through the SETI website our message is getting out there.

Maybe the Press release could say something like "Anonymous decides to help the Church of Scientology search for the evil overlord, Xenu"...

I've been crunching SETI since 1999 as well as several other "Boinc projects".

The competition is great, the rewards are victoly alone and no other personal gain. The team wars can be epic battles, lots of cross forums postings (boarding parties).

There are some 'for profit' ventures on there which I always avoid. I stick to the ones that produce results for all to use.

I think Rob is onto something here, many people who 'crunch' are exactly the types we want to educate. I think this idea has great potential.
