MEST was a creation of Theta as an aesthetic amusement...in order to keep it "intriguing", it was allowed to have some of its own "determinism" (aka "loss of control/creation of 'others' "). Things declined and the beautiful game/trap became not unlike a "tarbaby".

Thanks for the quote. Shermer's a good author and I like his work.

While pattern recognition is a survival mechanism developed during the evolution of our minds, it's also worth keeping in mind that, as a self-aware species with the level of education we collectively have, we're a lot further from the forces of natural selection than a proto-human ancestor. While the type I and type II description of a snake in a grass is apt in Shermer's description, I tend to be on the skeptical side when the talk turns to discussion of OTO, Thelema, etc. as though it actually worked. And I'm sure Shermer would probably say the same.

I think it's safer to assume that, like countless other "magical" cults developed all throughout history, Scientology is just the result of self-delusion and probably mental illness.

well if you can wrap your mind around what Ive presented on this thread in one sitting you are a better man than I, as you will be benefiting from 15 years of contemplations, research, reading, discussion, firefights and meditations....

And there is an in your face sort of thing that I dont know how to describe....but it is from Ficino's magic(note)..that Hubbard did... that allowed him to state the most outrageous things and my god, we swallowed them! But.. once you start to see through that technique that I know not a name to describe it... you will start seeing through things all around you and you will be left with only one path.. the path of absolute truth as it looks to you.... - I have tried to turn the fact of my twenty years under the influence to some advantage, perhaps you will too, because what you shall learn fighting out of the trap crafted by the best architects of the mind at that time, (and I am not referring to L Ron, Im referring to the Reich). you will see through things that others rarely question.. and the world badly needs more of you with such sight.

Also to WTF and Jswift, you guys are talking about what Hubbard stole from the Huna Religion in Hawaii.. They have the physical body, clusters of thought forms, the shadowy body (Hubbard called the GE), the higher self (spirit), the middle self (mind) and the lower self (brains).. The book about this by Max Freedom Long is (c) 1948 "The Secret Science Behind Miracles" it includes the phrase "how to kill with a thought"..They also use a triangle / pyramid symbol. Side note - their code of ethics was elegant - "Never steal or damage another's stuff or hurt their feelings.."

Note: Ficino's magic is best described by Professor Francis A Yates of the University of Chicago Press in his book on Giordano Bruno

I believe you are confusing me with Jswift and you will get no argument from me that Hubbard's techniques induce mental illness and even sociopathy, but even those gradient effects are a two-way street. And please understand, when one writes one is writing to an audience.. When I do deprogramming I become a scientologist, and get right up close and comfy with my fellow scientologist, using all the lingo as if I believed those words had meaning until they open up and become receptive and once the channel is open I insert the whole of the truth with all the patterns I have seen to support it...and the easily observable FACT that if there were just ONE OT in Scientology, he would not be hearing my voice. and I exagerrate the ssssss on the end of voicsssssss.

So if something i write rubs you the wrong way, maybe you don't need it, so why read it?

My Dear Mr. Lerma, Harris' fMRI study tested statements of belief vs statements of fact. Sam Harris and his team were looking to see how the brain discriminated the two. Surprisingly, the study showed that, "the difference between belief and disbelief appears to be content-independent" as far as the brain is concerned. It would have been interesting to see how the statement "what is true for you is true for you" lighted up the brain. It may have well lighted up that part of the brain that rejects nonsense. Scientology appears to be able to render that part of the brain inoperable. Please be clear, I do not see Scientology as a religion by any stretch of the imagination.

What I am most interested in are formulations and effects. What interests me is how Scientology is formulated and what effects it produces in people. One can work on the brain side of religion altogether and look at fMRI signal as Harris has done. There is also evolution to consider. In the finer grain look, there are the hidden and embedded forms of hypnosis and control that you have spent fifteen years investigating.

One can also examine the esoteric content and see what effect it produces in the mind of a Scientologist. The potency of esoteric language and concepts, group pressure, and of the auditing experience itself produces an effect that is significant or CoS would have gone out of business in the 1950's. Looking for higher linkages of CoS to the shadowy worlds outside of CoS proper is an interesting avenue of investigation. I have long talked about The Shadowmen. IMO, their world is where the black boxes and bank boxes of Scientology are actually located.

Source documents and the testimony of former members have emerged as the most consistent and effective means to help Scientologists leave CoS. However, these same means sometimes only shift a person from CoS to the FZ. This is an organizational shift only and does not diminish the psychological dependence upon auditing. Thus, Scientology is transportable because it is programmed onboard. The FZ strategy of demonizing COB, while laudable, is a short term growth strategy that comprehensively fails to address the larger problems and contradictions in the so-called Tech.

I'm glad for the thread bump, because of this one paragraph, which I apperently missed.


This better articulates something that I've been saying for months: the Freezone isn't fighting scientology, like anon and the exes are, it's just a different (cheaper generic) "brand" of scientology, competing with the "name brand" scientology for customers.

One step at a time. If the RTC falls or disbands, then the ownership of copyrights may disappear as well as the partial monopoly the RTC has over the Scientology brand. Without copyright claims as a mean to silence critics, without a monopoly which needs to be defended, without a sea org, without an OSA (Unless Marty wants to create a 'new' church), most of the battle is won.

CST actually holds the copyrights, and can yank the trademarks from RTC control. That would only happen if Davey was in an "escape capsule" scenario where CoS/RTC was crumbling, rebels through the defences, etc, and he could let it fall and re-form the organization from his backup bridge at CST.
