In the City of Clearwater Florida you can hire off duty police but you have to pay for it. It might be the same in U-City.

The UCPD called me at 2:19am (why so early?) and let me know that i could pick my camera and laptop up...i got everything back about 11:30 this morning.


I went with the most simple information i could, and found that my computer was accessed twice. my WiFi was turned off. the first image you will see is my first and last access times...





all that looks normal, and i see now WINDOWS ( I cant stress that enough ) program access or security credentials. HOWEVER, however the hardware logs tell a different story...






VERY FUKKEN SUSPICIOUS

what gave it away? when i turned it on, the WiFi was turned off...i NEVER turn off the WiFi unless i am trying to save battery life. NOW i need to review my logs more closely to verify that it wasnt a computer activated event, most likely it was not, but i will double check anyway. I never received updated IP info because there were no out going network connections made...that i can see. However, i can see that my computer was awake for longer swaths of time then the battery would allow (i had the charger with me, meaning that it had to be plugged in to something. I will not say how long it had been on, just that windows event viewer say that it was longer then the life of the battery.

IANAL but don't they need your permission or a warrant to search your computer SINCE YOUR COMPUTER HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH "IMPEDING TRAFFIC"? Even a home search warrant is issued for specific items. If they find drugs while searching for guns I don't think you can be charged with drug possession.

Edit: Looks like I'm wrong since he was arrested. I was also wrong about the guns/drugs comment if the drugs are in plain view.

Regardless of whether the police have the right to search things, they also need some sort of reasonable suspicion for something.

Even in the airports if they're worried your computer is a bomb, they just want you to turn on your computer to prove it's a computer. They don't go further than that.

Yeah, I've been considering seeing if I can get a collection started to hire one for our raids. If enough people chip in it would only be a few bucks each. And it adds an extra layer of protection to the event.

Possibly, but maybe not. Both times are quick, and those logs would be in line with powering up to the windows boot screen then killing it. One is the time when it was first checked in and the other is right about when they called you to let you know it was available. It's entirely possible they have procedures like those at the airport, where they power it on during check-in just to make sure it's really a computer. And then they may have done it once more on check-out to make sure it was still operational as it was when it was received.

Still, worth checking in to to be sure.

Ace, if you want to know what was modified/accessed on your pc, there's a utility called file boss(has a free trial) that you can use to locate folders or files that were accessed during a specified time period.

Whilst I don't think it's ever been an actual threat of vanning in London, it is 'strongly recommended' that we stay across the road from the Org whenever we protest, agreement to which has resulted in a 'gentlemens agreement' between ourselves and the local police that as long as we comply, we don't need to seek permission, or inform them, of our intention to protest.

This works fine for us, because the pavement is wider on our side of the road, and we often see people crossing the road to our side a) to avoid the stress test table, and b) ask what we're protesting about.

It also has the added bonus that if Scientologists cross the road to our side, and either harrass, insult or otherwise disrupt our right to protest freely, we are fully at liberty to call the partyvan on them.

Occasionally a little concession can bring great bonuses :)

Filing an internal affairs complaint is an excellent idea.

I think it's likely the Scilons told that cop we're violent, dangerous protesters and they're terrified of having us near their building.

It seems like we've had more incidents in the past 2 weeks than in the last 15 months. It's interesting that they break all the laws and we get all of the arrests. Remember how the DC cops declined to arrest the Scilon who kicked RonJeremy?

The second time, when they called you to come pick it up, it was to make sure it was still working (see "Protection of police from claims of lost property").
