I imagine they probably gave a very ambiguous definition of their stance on human rights. Like, they might have said something typical about "Man's inalienable right to free speech", and said that they set up organization to "fight human rights abuses", but failed to mention that those "human rights abuses" involve pharmacists prescribing drugs.

Assuming this person has no idea what Scientology is, she probably assumed it was another selfless, charitable church group. Either that, or she just wanted to look good for re-election. Sometimes politicians will use words solely to please a group or groups of people, because they think it will get them re-elected.
