This thread is REALLY making me happy.
Just remember, if you're not making shit up, the law shouldn't pertain to you. Protesting should not need to end. |

Anti-defamation (spelt right i hope) laws make laugh.
Under them we would not be allowed to say Scientology is a load of tosh, yet they are allowed to say our belief that it doesnt exist IS a load of tosh. hmm... although if it comes in, technically scilons and christians and muslims won't be allowed to say any other religion doesn't exist due to that being blasphemous. Go on Eirefags and say no to this silly new law! |

Re: Irish Times: Defamation Bill Amendment. "blasphemous libel". Anonymous/Co$ exampl
Blasphemy is a two-edged thing.
For one thing this would depend on non-Scientologists knowing what the religous beliefs of Scientology are. But Scientologists (TD) refuse to define or discuss their religious beliefs and find it offensive even to be asked about them. So we know nothing about their religion and have often agreed that what these poor deluded souls believe is not our business. OK. But they cannot claim that enslavement, forced abortions, splitting up families, gross neglect of minor children, fraud, multiple court cases, and so on are their religious beliefs or that it is blasphemous to make these accusations. Protests against documented breaches of human rights can hardly be blasphemous, can they? Even if this medieval retrograde legislation finds support in Ireland, all Anon needs to do is be very careful what they say in public. And we always are. It is no bad thing. It makes it easier for everyone to understand the point. In any case no-one is suddenly pitched into major legal confrontation. A complaint is always considered against existing law by a public prosecutor, or whoever, or at a preliminary hearing, before it comes to court, to see if there is in fact a legal case to answer. This is the point when Epic Nose Guy and several others got off the hook. Campaigning against compulsory abortion (in Ireland!) is not going to go very far. Negative.
What happens when it becomes difficult to criticise religion, religious practice, religious behaviour, religious attitudes or religious people? It becomes even more difficult to expose the dark side of religious life. Shutting down free expression about religion is always about silencing the truth about abusive behaviour of one kind or another. Catholic sex abuse cases - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Catholic church even has a written order to silence discussion about abuse. Sex crimes and the Vatican - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Quote:
