They appear to have used a proffessional sign company. Signtech of San Diego. I doubt they'd fix it to something that was substandard.

Also note that when they say it is 3 times the size, it is actually only 3 times the height of the old one. The width is the same and thus doesn't make it 3 times more readable.

Actually, since ATLanons have a good relationship with our local LEOs, we found out from them directly that they did read Enturb.org / WWP frequently to see what was going on.
It is not unimaginable that local LEOs in other areas where protests are being held might be keeping tabs on protesters in their area, and "getting to know" various Anonymous "personalities."

You qualified your "Yeah, right" message with phrases like "upper echelons" and comments about Anons getting too big for their britches daring to think themselves v. v. important, but the point is that you don't know who is reading what where, or why.

Again, our "upper echelon" (and "rank and file") LEOs said they DID read the forums (and enjoyed watching our YouTube videos). Do they still? Probably, but we haven't asked in a couple of months (AFAIK). I suppose we could ask again. We haven't been too worried about it, as we have a low asshat population in our "cell."

You complain about Anons making baseless speculations / being tinfoil-y, but apparently, in your eagerness to play Devil's Advocate constantly, you are not immune to making some leaps of logic and unsubstantiated comments yourself. Until you hear from the LAPD that none of them are reading the forums, or that they are, you simply don't know any more than anyone else what they are doing or not doing. Want to be proactive and call someone and ask?

I'd be surprised if their local LEOs had NOT read some relevant threads here, even if only during their spare time, in order to profile some more noticeable protesters in their area. Nor would I be surprised to find out that some had just gotten curious and looked up WWP to see what those persistent pesky protesters were so fired up about. It's been a year and a half, and people DO get curious.

Yeah, I suspect there's some circumventing of sign ordinances going on. Supposedly, the old sign was not up-to-code anymore, so when it was taken down for repair, they were told that they couldn't put it back up.

Yet the new sign, which is bigger and in the same place, is okay? Note that the old sign protruded from the sides of the building, or rather, the sides of the tower at the top. The new sign does not, but only because they've extended the building to flank the tower more. It would not suprise me one bit if that 'extension' of the building was only done so they could get their sign back up.

Almost all larger municipal police agencies have a "criminal intelligence" or "special investigations" unit assigned to gathering intelligence on individuals, groups, or situations with potential to become problematic.

In the early 1980's a lot of these units reduced their focus on protest groups in response to political pressures. That all changed in 1999 with the WTO riots in Seattle. After "The Battle in Seattle" the focus on political groups returned with a vengeance.

If you live in a major city where Anonymous has held a protest - especially if that protest received any kind of press coverage - you can bet your ass that someone on your local police department is actively maintaining an intelligence file on Anonymous - and is probably routinely reviewing this and other relevant websites in order to keep that file updated.

You can also bet that the scilons are not the only ones taking pictures and jotting down names and license plate numbers at your protests.


By way of an intentionally vague and limited CV:

I'm a retired police officer - and I still work in a fairly high-level sworn position in the criminal justice field. I frequently work out of my state's Capitol and I am in daily contact with municipal, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Because it could negatively effect my career I have to keep my support for Anonymous "closeted" - but I have been a vocal opponent of Scientology for years, and an active supporter of Anonymous since the first protest (for which I hung flyers all over my local downtown area in the middle of the night). I have been present at several protests in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and San Diego over the past year and a half. I am a frequent anonymous contributor to this board, and used to participate on the old Enturb board as well.

I'm also damn sexy for an older guy.
