Steps:
1. Make networks on both Live Communities - Chatroll.com and Ning. Create your own social network for anything.


2. Make a twitter feed for your locals to follow.

3. Embed chatroll's client into your ning.

4. Embed WWP's RSS, Digg, twitter, all manner of information related to Project Chanology and local interests into your ning.

5. Theme the whole thing.

6. Invite locals RL and online. Have them use built in platform tools to recruit others.

7. When you're done send an email with your city and url to directory@whyweprotest.net so you can be included in the Anonymous directory.

Now you have: A forum, chat client (with the ability to be anonymous), image board (via chatroll), twitter mobile alerts, image repository, video repository, the latest news related to Project Chanology, event calendar, etc.

All for free, easily replaceable if the admin fails at life, and with little to no effort. No hardware, no donations, little HTML understanding needed, no stress.

Twitter:
For those that don't understand how twitter works, if you get an account together with some trusted anons you can have an automated mobile announcement system. Have say, 5-6 trusted users who have access to the account and then have the rest of your local group follow the account. That way no matter who has who's number a twitter update can be sent out to everyone's phone without phone numbers involved. All those who subscribe to the twitter can then receive text messages directly from the source instead of attempting to relay messages back and forth while on the move.

TV:
As for TV, if any of you other cells idle in chat/irc/ning whatever. A good way to create conversation is with sticky content. Take a gander at platforms like www.mogulus.com/. I know this sounds stupid, but simply giving people something to watch, like a little TV widget, on your website while chatting increases the chance someone will hang around.

2.The drag a text box into your site layout.
3.Save
4.Go back to your main page.
5.Press the edit button on your new text box.
6.Copy paste the Chatroll widget code.

Simply add the "Chat" feature in manage network>features

Information Tab:
Don't make your front page one huge propaganda / information shitfest about Project Chanology. You are building a social network, not a wiki. This is about social interaction, not information. Leverage the platforms and use them properly.

For informing the public and educating new users I'd recommend building an "Information" tab into your ning navigation bar.

To do this: Go to Manage>tabs>add new tab>create page>title: Information

then go to the new page you've created and populate it with something similar to:

1) Using the Ning forums

Ning has an excellent help page, go there for general questions.

To see the most recent posts, click "Main". This is the best you can do to find out what is going on RIGHT NOW on the site.

Use the Events tab to plan raids and RSVP

You can globally control email sending when topics are updated in "My Settings" on the right side of the page, or at the bottom of each individual thread. When I first started I was getting an email for every new post and it sucked. I had to turn it off in My Settings.

You must be friends with someone before you can PM them! Click their avatar to get to their profile, then click "Send Friend Request" under their picture. Go back later after they approve you and view their profile and click "Send Message".

Ning forums operate differently than your typical boards. You can reply to something in the middle of a conversation. The pages will readjust. This means that post you saw on page 4 might get moved to page 5 the next day. This can be frustrating! You can get a hard link to a single post by right clicking the little link icon next to it and copying that url.

3) Getting to protests

* remember, they don't have the resources to watch every train station or bus stop as you get on, but they do have the resources to have a PI stationed at a raid stop when you get off so make sure you mask up before you get off the train/bus or whatever. Masks are legal on BART. You might feel weird doing it, but it's legal. Go through the toll booths masked, they won't hassle you.

* Familiarize yourself with, and use public transportation to avoid your car being photographed/plates run. THEY WILL DO THIS! AVOID CARS AT ALL COSTS

* Google street maps (or better yet, use mapjack) to familiarize yourself with any protest locations.

4) The use of the word "fag" and other Anonymous lingo

* "Fags" is ok online and not an insult. A poor analogy is that "niggas is to black men as fags is to internet dorks". You are all fags, and so are we. If someone calls you a "bayfag", they just mean you are from the bay. nothing more. If they call you an "Artfag" that means you are good at art. Our apologizes to any gay members who find this offensive, but it's just the way it is.

* Shouting "*fags" in real life protests is not acceptable. Everyone will point and laugh at you and you just might get beat up by a real life fag. This is San Francisco and they all work out more than you.

* tl;dr means "too long; didn't read". It's a summary.
Please don't post more than 3 paragraphs at a time unless you are drunk.

5) How to add your photos/videos

If you try to Upload photo/video and it seems like your browser crashed, just be patient. It takes awhile to load a java applet. If things fail or it loads way too slow, trying using these instead:

easy Youtube video importer

Use the Flickr Importer! to import entire Flick streams. Make sure you "import descriptions" and "import full size".

Use titles/descriptions/tags dammit! It sucks to see 30 photos with the same fucking name. Or "IMG_####.jpg". at least try to title the good shots!

Create albums. Create one and drag your photos into it. That way we can see the original source in the huge sea of random pics. You can import a flickr set into an album.

When posting in a thread and add an image, make sure you click "Options":
[x] make thumbnail this prevents the thread from loading too slow
[x] open in pop-up window this allows us to see the high res version

Tracking Traffic:
You can go into your management tab and add http://www.google.com/analytics/ and/or an IP tracking system.

This has helped me identify what features were popular with my local group and overt attacks.

I can't stress how important it is to leverage 3rd party social tools. Don't reinvent the wheel just because you can.

Administration (Note: This is stuff I learned over the years):
Have one person that holds all the keys. This person should stay neutral and focus on keeping the site running properly at all costs. Preferably, they should keep out of local drama and only weigh-in if it is a cell breaking issue. Have a set of moderators that act as a counsel. They should dictate social direction and represent a broad set of ideals. (douchebags, OG, hatefags, oldfags, newfags)

If an administrator loses his shit, abandon ship and rebuild. if a moderator loses their shit, remove them immediately and replace them with someone that represents their interests. Rinse repeat until you've got a well oiled machine.

I think it's important that we focus on society building in 09. We've talked so much about protest tactics, information, Scientology, when we forget there needs to be culture and some form of local sub culture for prosperity. You've gotta give people more than just another protest group if we're ever going to amount to anything but a bunch of internet savvy weirdos with shitty signs in front of a Scientology building.

I'd advocate giving your users information on other topics to drive community interaction.

Example:
We have a web tv channel feed that sits right next to our chat box. Plenty of nights we all just sit and watching it, discussing things unrelated to Project Chanology. We also have RSS feeds from tech related news, which fosters communication on topics non-Chanology related.

After a year, talking purely about Project Chanology has become pretty boring. Survival, growth of our local communities will rely upon building social groups, going beyond just "protesting".

Stagnation leads to lack of interest. Find ways to mitigate it.
