How To: Build an uber planning site for free in under 30 minutes.

NOTE: If you are super paranoid about your anonymity the steps contained in this guide require java script and open you up to a number of attacks that could result in a malicious person obtaining your IP. (If determined enough) These are all public platforms. If you would like to know how to mitigate these issues please refer to: http://forums.whyweprotest.net/235-h...-vm-vpn-38295/
Steps: 1. Make networks on both Live Communities - Chatroll.com and Ning. Create your own social network for anything. 2. Make a twitter feed for your locals to follow. 3. Embed chatroll's client into your ning. 4. Embed WWP's RSS, Digg, twitter, all manner of information related to Project Chanology and local interests into your ning. 5. Theme the whole thing. 6. Invite locals RL and online. Have them use built in platform tools to recruit others. 7. When you're done send an email with your city and url to directory@whyweprotest.net so you can be included in the Anonymous directory. Now you have: A forum, chat client (with the ability to be anonymous), image board (via chatroll), twitter mobile alerts, image repository, video repository, the latest news related to Project Chanology, event calendar, etc. All for free, easily replaceable if the admin fails at life, and with little to no effort. No hardware, no donations, little HTML understanding needed, no stress. Need an easy way to transfer information and work on projects secretly with a group of people? Try https://www.google.com/accounts/Serv...epage&rm=false. UPDATES DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND: Notes - Twitter: For those that don't understand how twitter works, if you get an account together with some trusted anons you can have an automated mobile announcement system. Have say, 5-6 trusted users who have access to the account and then have the rest of your local group follow the account. That way no matter who has who's number a twitter update can be sent out to everyone's phone without phone numbers involved. All those who subscribe to the twitter can then receive text messages directly from the source instead of attempting to relay messages back and forth while on the move. Twitter Widget: Setup can be found at:http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/twidget Polls? Need to have a vote?: Embed a poll in whatever discussion you're having:http://www.99polls.com/ is a great service to facilitate this. TV: As for TV, if any of you other cells idle in chat/irc/ning whatever. A good way to create conversation is with sticky content. Take a gander at platforms like www.mogulus.com/. I know this sounds stupid, but simply giving people something to watch, like a little TV widget, on your website while chatting increases the chance someone will hang around. Setting up a chat room: Chatroll - 1.Manage network>Features 2.The drag a text box into your site layout. 3.Save 4.Go back to your main page. 5.Press the edit button on your new text box. 6.Copy paste the Chatroll widget code. Ning - Simply add the "Chat" feature in manage network>features Ning Notes Feature: Adding the notes module gives you a "wiki-like" setup there too. Some good streams to embed: http://www.mogulus.com/guide/search?..._tag=anonymous Project Chanology related sidebar code: Code:

You are building a social network, not a wiki. This is about social interaction, not information. Leverage the platforms and use them properly. For informing the public and educating new users I'd recommend building an "Information" tab into your ning navigation bar. To do this: Go to Manage>tabs>add new tab>create page>title: Information then go to the new page you've created and populate it with something similar to: Code:
<center><a href="http://i40.tinypic.com/2ew1tt5.jpg" target= "http://anonsf.ning.com/forum/topics/2034710:Topic:11962"></a> <a href="http://anonsf.ning.com/forum/topics/2034710:Topic:11962" target="_blank"><img src= "http://i40.tinypic.com/2ew1tt5.jpg"></a></center> <p><a href="http://forums.whyweprotest.net/">Why We Protest Forum</a></p> <p>The primary hub for Project Chanology, where Anons and others from around the world meet and<br> communicate.</p> <p><a href="www.forum.exscn.net/">ExScientologist Forums</a></p> <p>A forum predominantly used by "Old Guard"- people who were intent on disassembling the Church of Scientology<br> before Anonymous came into the picture.</p> <p><a href="http://888chan.org/">888chan.org</a></p> <p>One of the few chans that remain friendly to Project Chanology, mostly because it was started by and is mostly populated by those involved in the project. Due to its nature as a chan, it is relatively free of drama and other sources of fail, although it is slow at times.</p> ![]() Also, setup a thread with recommendations to new users. Here is the one we use: Quote:
Tracking Traffic: You can go into your management tab and add http://www.google.com/analytics/ and/or an IP tracking system. This has helped me identify what features were popular with my local group and overt attacks. I can't stress how important it is to leverage 3rd party social tools. Don't reinvent the wheel just because you can. Administration (Note: This is stuff I learned over the years): Have one person that holds all the keys. This person should stay neutral and focus on keeping the site running properly at all costs. Preferably, they should keep out of local drama and only weigh-in if it is a cell breaking issue. Have a set of moderators that act as a counsel. They should dictate social direction and represent a broad set of ideals. (douchebags, OG, hatefags, oldfags, newfags) If an administrator loses his shit, abandon ship and rebuild. if a moderator loses their shit, remove them immediately and replace them with someone that represents their interests. Rinse repeat until you've got a well oiled machine. I think it's important that we focus on society building in 09. We've talked so much about protest tactics, information, Scientology, when we forget there needs to be culture and some form of local sub culture for prosperity. You've gotta give people more than just another protest group if we're ever going to amount to anything but a bunch of internet savvy weirdos with shitty signs in front of a Scientology building. I'd advocate giving your users information on other topics to drive community interaction. Example: We have a web tv channel feed that sits right next to our chat box. Plenty of nights we all just sit and watching it, discussing things unrelated to Project Chanology. We also have RSS feeds from tech related news, which fosters communication on topics non-Chanology related. After a year, talking purely about Project Chanology has become pretty boring. Survival, growth of our local communities will rely upon building social groups, going beyond just "protesting". Stagnation leads to lack of interest. Find ways to mitigate it. What it will look like if you sweaty pile of garden gnomes don't suck at this: ![]() MORE INFO: Quote:

Also, adding the notes module gives you a "wiki-like" setup there too. Only Admins can add to it, but I'm sure there's a work around.

Oh and -
Tracking Traffic: You can go into your management tab and add Google Analytics and/or an IP tracking system. This has helped me identify what features were popular with my local group and overt attacks. |

I like this thread a lot...I think that the site you've created looks excellent. So good that I'm probably gonna use your tips for some work stuff I'm involved with...but...
...my one concern is that every single person who uses a site set up in this manner can be IPfagged, as you have to use JavaScript. This may not seem like that much of an issue - and it may never become one - but most information is available if you've got enough money. If you doubt this, speak to anyone in business who's ever used a private investigator for any length of time, and they'll tell you that pretty much all "limited access" information is available for a price. Not every PI can get every single thing himself - not directly at least - but through outsourcing to one another, there's a collective network that makes almost everything up for grabs if you've got the cash, and that's one thing Co$ isn't short of. It's by no means inconceivable that Co$ would spend the necessary money to have the IP addresses of perhaps 1000 of the most active "Anons" turned into real-world addresses. Say a PI was charging $600 a pop for this info (my guess is it'd actually be much less, but whatever)...the question you have to ask yourself is "would Co$ pay $600,000 for what would likely end up as 90% of the real addresses of 1000 people involved with something it considers to be amongst it's biggest enemies?" [Less than the cost of just two of it's members' "bridges."] I think they would, and I think it's important for people to use TOR (with all the necessary's disabled) unless they're taking equivalent security measures (connecting through a throwaway mobile or an internet cafe, or publicly accessible Wi-Fi etc.) This may never happen, but it's very likely that at some point they'll try and carry out an "Op" that'll namefag a large number of "Anons." I'm not wanting to piss on ANYONE'S cornflakes, I just wanna say "buyer bewarned." Our anonymity isn't essential, but it is a major asset nonetheless. Last edited by anon345; 02-04-2009 at 11:23 AM.. This is why the nonnamefagged should be using TOR /anyway/, regardless of if the site is a ning.

re: How To: Build an uber planning site for free in under 30 minutes.
Yeah so use a proxy.
Any website that allows users to post images of any kind is a risk, or allows any form of embedding, Including WWP. An image can become a vehicle to obtain IP's very easily depending upon how it is hosted, not just java script. And yes, the ning platform is a huge risk. it allows users to post all kinds of embedded information... hence, why it is so modular, why it is so flexible. Sadly, with IP's you can do very little. You need a name, or information to be associated with it. If a person is good enough to track down your personal info via a platform like ning or chatroll... you are already fucked. There isn't much you can do to stop them. 1. Ning is pro freedom of speech. I wont go into details, but you have no need to worry about them. 2. Chatroll is privately owned, funded, and has a very dedicated small team. It's hard to even proxy into. key point: everything is private about the company. They are appreciative of the business we give them. it adds value to their net worth. The metrics, the data they record from us increases the value of their company. They wouldn't risk that on selling some IPs, you using the platform is far more valuable. 3. I'd call WWP more of a risk, as enturbs database is freely available. You have a better chance of WWP leaking data about you then a bunch of legitimate business's that have to operate within industry best ethics. They have money riding on it. Long story short: If you're that paranoid, you are most likely already compromised by your standards of security by hanging out here. edit: Also, you are a paranoid freak. All these platforms are public. If you want to do something private, don't do it on the internet. Assume nothing is private on the internet. Private platforms are what you have to worry about. Small time shmucks are the ones that don't get how e commerce works. What? You think anonnet is safe? lol, think again. Last edited by megaphonebitch; 02-04-2009 at 09:59 AM.. |
