This is nagging at me now.

Removal of the barriers and using on-duty officers is obviously a cost-cutting measure. But the rest of the stuff, limiting the duration etc, that reeks of pressure from elsewhere. Probably complaints from LomBok.....

Also: Jim's email says cutting the protest hours means he can use two on-duty officers rather than thatn bringing them in off leave.

Call me a knob, right, but why can't he have them do shifts? IE Two on-duty officers come to the protest for an hour, then they leave and two more take their place. That's what they did at Saint Hill last year, they were doing it in shifts.

I suggest then that, as long as we keep below the "magic 20", we simply don't bother to have police protection. After all, we all know who the real 'terrorists' are - and a clue for those that don't know, they aren't on the LomBok side of the street.

Enough of us have cameras, the street has cameras, and the Org has cameras that can prove if we do anything silly like go inside (and that we didn't do anything when they bawww anyway).

There's no reason why we can't give a courtesy call to say we'll be there, but as Jim's problem seems to more be down to tieing up resources unnecessarily perhaps we ought to remind them that the biggest resource waster is the scifags whining about us exercising our democratic rights.

If the group does reach 20 ... then we send out a few raiding parties to hunt for stress tables, or simply leaflet in any busy tourist area.

I don't think that's how it works, basil - I don't believe we get to choose whether they come and "police our protest" or not, and I don't think that's a function of whether there's 20 people or not.

I believe the number of officers they've previously sent is down to their internal policies - perhaps if we're only there for two hours and < 20 then Jim can justify very modest coverage, whereas otherwise he has to have 6 or 8 or however-many officers there all the time. Either way, that's not a matter of law and not "our problem".

Unfortunately, having a moving protest is a much larger pain in the arse than a static one; you're required to inform the police well in advance and there's a whole bunch of ridiculous hoops to jump through.

Hrm. Even with 20+ people, the police don't actually need to be there. After the first few here last year, they stopped leaving officers standing to keep an eye on us. A couple would wander past every now and then, as is standard for that area of town, but that was it. Them trying to justify the cost is bollocks, they chose to post officers and barriers, there's no legal need to as far as I can tell - afterall, we never had the same issues up here.

A good idea, although I think it would be difficult because the scifags use their mobiles and pretend to be members of the public. That being said if this could be proved it would be an epic footbullet for the cult.

I don't have the time to do this, but it would be nice if someone else did it.
