Harpoons Amazon pulls sale of The Complex by John Duignan for "legal reasons"

I had this book on pre-order from Amazon but on Friday I received the following email:
Quote:
Dear Customer,

We are contacting you regarding your Amazon.co.uk order which included the following:

'The Complex: An Insider Exposes the Covert World of the Church of Scientology' (Asin 1903582849)

This item has been removed from sale for legal reasons.

We have cancelled your order for this item and can confirm that you have not been charged for it.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

We look forward to serving you again in the future.

Warmest regards,

Customer Service Department
Amazon.co.uk

Please note: This e-mail was sent from a notification-only address that cannot accept incoming e-mail. Please do not reply to this message.
I contacted Amazon but their customer support chappy was only able to expand on "legal reasons" as being something to do with the content not being fair. ORLY!

I ended up phoning the publisher in Ireland again because I wanted the book quicker than 4 weeks as per other sites (W H Smiths & Waterstones) and they said they would send me it to me directly, took my card details and it's going to be on its way by Air this Monday, so I'll have mine next week! Sucks boo Scientology - and the one I ordered from W H Smiths will make someone a nice Xmas present when it arrives.

GO DIRECT TO SOURCE FOR FAST SUPPLY!
(12.99 + 4.99 postage in EUROs)

Merlin Publishing Ireland (00 from UK) +35 314 535866

If I had the money I would by a box of these books and sell them on Stress Test cart pickets, The Book the Church of Scientology doesn't want you to read - oh it would be great to sell more copies of that than they do dianetics.

Hmmm - add this to all the drama and Amazon's clearly one-sided attitude with the book reviews six months ago... Interesting...

I wonder how much of amazon is owned/influenced by scientology... is it as deep as neopets? or just a bit of a snow whiteish thing?

The members of the Brotherhood have no way of recognizing one another, and it is impossible for any one member to be aware of the identity of more than a few others.
The Brotherhood cannot be wiped out because it is not an organization in the ordinary sense. Nothing holds it together except an idea which is indestructible.

Not sure but one thing is certain. This book needs to be made available in Second life just as scandal of scientology and bare faced was. Somebody should transcribe it into a note card and set up a donation fund for the author in sl.

I, like God, do not play with dice and do not believe in coincidence.

HOLY SHIT Throw more leaked dox, MORE DOX NOW! I want DOX UP on EVERY time!

Well, it's not a big surprise that Amazon pussied out on selling the book.

Thanks for the info on ordering the book directly.

I think Amazon definitely is owned, or at least co-owned by scilons.

Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

This type of censorship, the blocking of the sale of a book, is worse than what Scientology did back in January that spawned the new form of Anonymous.

This can be equated with the burning of books. With censorship in our free public libraries. With Scientology using their money as bullying power with major corporations.

Think about what this truly is, react, and do what is necessary, moral, and legal.

"No one who...conjures up the most evil of those half-tamed demons that inhabit the human beast, and seeks to wrestle with them, can expect to come through the struggle unscathed." - Freud

Geeze, the COS is just begging to get it's ass kicked, isn't it.

Let our money talk to Amazon; it may be one of the biggest online booksellers, but it isn't the only one. If they won't provide the book, there are PLENTY of online booksellers who can and will. If you want it faster, go directly to the publisher and you'll get a copy.

All the money they could have made from the sale of that book would easily deflect any lawsuit the Scilon's filed.

EDIT: Went to Abebooks.com to look for The Scandal of Scientology and the The Complex. Couldn't find eiter, but I did find this. False Report Correction The Scandal of Scientology: Cooper, Paulette Talk about eyeroll worthy! Check out the publisher!

Was the seller concerned the publisher or a third party?
If it's the publisher: Are there any actual legal problems or did Amazon lie outright?
Why is Amazon acting against Amazon's commercial interests?
