Unless the person was a well-trained swordsman, it would have been extremely easy to evade and drop the nutjob without doing him permanent harm. Clearly he was not in his right mind. It is easy to tell if a person has experience with swords just by the way the handle them.

If the cops had shot and killed this guy there would be an IAD investigation. They are trained how to take people down who are insane...I remember once the cops shot and killed a crazy dude who was wielding a brick....it did not go well. In general cops try NOT to kill someone who is clearly not OK in the head. I suppose if the man had been threatening a crowd, holding a child hostage ect they would have dropped him...but thus far it looks like the only people claiming they were skeered are the clam cops.

From the pics it looked like the poor guy hardly got out of his car before he was dead.
