There are literally Volumes written on these subjects. You can probably find a copy or three over at "WikiLeaks" /snicker.

"Reader's Digest" version:

Assessment is usually done by reading (with proper intention/TRs of course) a list of things (usually a prepared form) to the person being audited or assessed (assessment need not be 'auditing') to look for areas of "charge" (areas of emotional distress or spiritual dismay etc)--things that show reaction per the e-meter. Usually it is used to locate the next area to handle in auditing.

Listing involves asking the person a question and getting possible answers to that question (from areas of the "case" or "charge".)

Example: What fruit do you like to eat?

Answers:

Apples
Oranges
Pears
Mangos
Watermelon


Nulling involves reading those answers back to the person, recording meter reads and finding the correct item from the list and noting it to the person being audited.


L's auditing involves both and much more. The L's do have differences from lower level auditing; a couple of them are: a) the auditor during portions of the rundown will read items somewhat accusatively while looking directly at the person being audited. (This is a specific "TR" for L's) b) the meter reads looked for are different: lower level auditing often looks for needle actions that fall on the e-meter. For L's a particular rising type of needle action is looked for.
