Hubbard was beyond 'deterioration' long before his own crew started to consider him a slightly 'mis-aligned' personna, probably well before his spew of 'Science' of Man etc.

Actually, I agree with you completely. From reading a lot of Scientology and Scientology history (both inside and outside the COS), I'm sure that Hubbard was amoral, immoral, completely self-centered, totally selfish and, well, evil, from the very beginning.

I think that in the beginning he was better (but never completely) able to effectively pretend to be "normal," nice, friendly, caring, etc., when it suited his purposes. Many psychopaths have the ability to know what society expects from them, and to give it (or pretend to give it) as necessary or advantageous.

It appears from many accounts that he lost that ability over time.

At some point he clearly became delusional, but I'm not sure when. I don't think he was delusional from the very start. Don't get me wrong. He always spouted bullshit. But in the beginning he knew it was bullshit. He knew it was a con. At some point he started believing his own bullshit, and became delusional. At some point (perhaps the same point, perhaps earlier or later), he lost his ability to effectively pretend to be "normal," nice, friendly, caring, etc., when it suited his purposes.

Thanks Kha-Khan, sort of what I was trying to express.

I still to this day figure that Hubbard only really believed his own crap when he was toally zoned (liek fucked outta his ever-lovin' mind, which was not infrequent imho), the rest of the time he was fashioning and integrating it into the over-all scam.

He had many things to consider, most of which was how to control the people he sucked in.
This has been looked at many times previously, many articles, many threads here.
