I love Tommy Davis. He never chooses his words carefully. Everything that comes out of his mouth either contradicts something the cult said before, or reflects so poorly on the cult that he practically does our job for us.

Re: The purification rundown is a "religious practice"?
I think they have this one covered, actually. Sort of.
It's the same practice, but it's not a religious practice when you're in Narconon. They don't call it the purif, and they don't use the same manuals. The manuals are almost identical, but they're different manuals. It's sort of like eating bread and taking communion. The context is what makes the act religious. Sounds stupid, but I think they know enough to make the distinction for tax, funding, etc. purposes. They do similar stuff with Applied Scholastics as well. This isn't a very convincing argument, but it makes about as much sense as claiming Scientology is a religion in the first place. It's a religion when they say it's a religion, and it's a secular self-improvement procedure when they say it isn't. |

Re: The purification rundown is a "religious practice"?
Edit - Suzette phrased it better than me. ^
Hasn't Scientology always been slippery on whether the emeter, purif, Study Tech etc are religious or secular? They just keep changing their story, and most of the time they get away with it. It is nice to have Tommy on record with that statement, however. Exes! Still intellectually curious? Re: The purification rundown is a "religious practice"?
The E-meter also is only supposed to be used as part of a religious practice, but they still use them to give stress tests on the street to pitch Dianetics, and Dianetics is supposed to be non-religious. But nobody seems to care.

L. Ron Hubbard - Purification Program you can read lots of babble about mental and spiritual benefits, but basically nothing written about the purif being "religious". Also, on the purif web site, there is lots of info about the "Drug Rundown", but very little info about the purif itself. |

Re: The purification rundown is a "religious practice"?
Excellent post. They've been saying the Narconon program is completely secular forever, now the purification program is "religious"? Which part of Narconon is NOT Scientology courses and the rundown?
Scientology insists on it's right to have it both ways. It is their "right" to scam drug addicts and their families as well as governments to the tune of $27,000.00 (paid up front for entry) a month for overcrowded saunas (5 hours a day, every day), mega niacin, vitamins and Scientology courses Ashtray: STAND UP, etc.... Narconon's program is medically dangerous and needs to be ended. Narconon is ALL Scientology and their 75% success rate is a total LIE to scam addicts and their families who believe it's the best choice for a chance. Canada has discredited Narconon, it's time for U.S. to wake up to this rampant fraud for Mother "Church". |

What this means is that they use exactly the same materials reprinted to say Narconon rather than Scientology. As for the e-meter, they may or may not use them with people in for the initial stay, but they certainly have them hidden away out of sight "for personal use". As soon they recruit people to stay as handlers for the next batch of raw addicts, then they're considered staff and out come the e-meters. They are recruited, it's just that on the surface they're being recruited to Narconon. Somehow these tortuous twists to hide what they're really doing are supposed to be invisible to wog eyes, so it's extremely insulting if you point this out or call them liars. |

Re: The purification rundown is a "religious practice"?
^^^^This^^^^ I've spoken with ex Narconon victims, drug abuse is rampant, security is poor, staff is poorly trained, 5 hour saunas, mega-niacin, vitamins and required introductory Scientology courses program is quackery. 27 grand up front for these "services" to Narconon and uplines to Scientology through a myriad of schemes.
The rest is Scientology courses, hanging out and getting high for quite a few of them is commonplace. When some families and addicts figure out that the program is all Scientology bullshit, they leave and have to scratch and claw to get a dime back of the 27 grand. At the end of the day there is the Hip, Hip, Hooray to a picture of L. Ron Hubbard for those who are taking the bait and helping or joining staff. Re: The purification rundown is a "religious practice"?
Nice find, and I'll bet anything that it doesn't have the court-ordered FDA label on the bottom.
The amusing thing is that it probably has more up-to-date electronics inside it than the (now) ancient Super Quantum meters. Someone from the FreeZone should take it for a spin and see if it does a better job. Of course, a log attached to two soup cans would work just as well.
