Interesting. I hope it balances the criminal aspect with information on the potential good (and unprecedented expansion of human rights) that comes with an affordable, fast global communications network. Fear-mongering could, in fact, spur on the movement to censor (and ultimately destroy) the network.

That said, an emphasis on cyber-security, and outlining the REAL risks, while emphasizing the true, incredible value of the system can strengthen the overall network and help people see through bullshit worries (that lead to endorsements of censorship).

Either way, I don't imagine the book will make much of a splash, though I wish the author well.

I caught the last part of a radio interview with the author last night on Coast to Coast AM. From all indications the story sounded like a somewhat updated Clifford Stoll/Kevin Mitnick rehash.

The authors expressed frustration over the level of paranoia that exists today among security "experts" vs the more open black hat/white hat haxor exchanges of days gone by did strike me as a valid criticism. (good times)

If the author has a crusade, it appears to be geared more towards the need for updated protocols to better control the proliferation of zombie botnets and the like at the root level rather than a continued reliance upon Aunt Edna to keep her Windows95 box patched up. Trufax, such protocols could be used for evil as well as good but that's something beyond the scope of a book like this.
