Raid of the Valkyrie: LASER-beams edition
Valkyrie is due out on DVD and Blu-Ray - hence LASERs. Tentative date seems to be May 19 (local variations may apply), but preparations may be needed ahead of time.
These are also just suggestions, and your ideas and criticism are welcome. This is not a boycott, by the way, but you're free to do that if you want. Online DVD Reviews: Write on-topic reviews, only if you've seen the movie. Be sure to review the DVD extras as well. Saying something about the irony of how Scientology is itself totalitarian might be OK, but it might be more effective to focus on the content of the film. Don't be afraid to mention a few positives about the film (inb4none), while also mentioning negative things. If it renders you speechless, feel free to get some ideas from mainstream media reviews, but don't copy-pasta. Website construction: If you want to tailor a website for stickers/cards. If you just want to refer to YouFoundTheCard/YouFoundTheSticker, this is not necessary, but if you want to set up a sort of portal page specifically for this, or perhaps something indirect like a film quiz about Valkyrie, I can donate web space and buy a domain name for you. Offline Imortant: 1: Do no harmful things. Damage, vandalism or other blatantly illegal stuff is against the rules of this forum. Whatever you do should be reversible. E.g. stickers should peel off without leaving any glue residue. 2: This is at your own risk. Even if what you do seems legal and harmless, Scientology or regular business people and store owners who sell these movies may not appreciate your actions and get you in trouble anyway. Areas of operation: - Inside DVD sales areas - On/close to advertising posters - ??? Some sleight of hand practice may be in order, as well as having an excuse ready (true or at least believeable). You may be working in an area covered by security cameras and store detectives. Prepare to actually buy some other DVDs while you're out doing this. You Found the Card: Sneak "You Found The Card" cards into the disc cover slip, or leave them in the area. Places selling DVDs, from 7-11s to high street media stores, will often just leave the covers out, and keep the discs themselves in secure storage. This means you have access to the empty covers, and you are expected to pick them up and look at the back. There are several ways to place it. Blatantly: ![]() Hidden: ![]() ![]() If the cover is clear, it can be seen from the inside. But that probably won't happen until it's sold and thus opened to put the disc in. Depending on the card design and color, it might not be noticed by the clerk ![]() If the cover is opaque, it won't be discovered so easily - which may be an advantage or disadvantage depending on what you're going for. ![]() With the junk inside the cover: ![]() Disadvantage here is that you'll have to actually open the cover, which is usually frowned upon. You Found the Sticker: If the disc cover is covered by plastic wrap, you can't put a card in the cover. Also, a sticker may be quicker to place. Again, make sure the sticker won't do damage to the cover. Test on your own DVDs first. No purchase necessary: Make a film quiz website or something like that, and place a sticker saying something like "Film quiz. www.example.com (No purchase necessary.)" The "no purchase necessary" bit is to avoid being ruled to be an illegal lottery. Study the freebie/bonus/competition stickers on other disc releases, and design a sticker which fits with the design of the Valkyrie DVD. Even more stealthy stickers/cards: - Barcode option: 1: Figure out the barcode of Valkyrie in your area in some way 2: Make a working barcode sticker with an online barcode generator. 3: Photoshop the barcode to say "Scientology kills" or has some other enturbulating message. ![]() Design choices: Remember to make the correct bar code number and size to fit the DVD cover. (Post size and code in this thread to help other anons in your country.) ![]() HiddenSticker.com redirects to youfoundthecard. ![]() I couldn't think of a message for this second design. Ideas? - QR code option: Make a QR code sticker or card. Place it next to the barcode in the back. A QR code can contain not just URL's but also text messages up to 250 characters, so you're not dependenent on websites to stay up. ![]() Other successful QR code users: Japan: Re: December in Japan / 日本 - Back in the Saddle Hamburg: Moar QR-Code Madness Asshole no-effort option Depending on how the DVDs are placed, you can just browse for other DVDs and put them back in a way that hides the Valkyrie DVD. Advertising posters and cardboard displays Apply similar tricks to advertising posters. Stay legal and non-destructive. Advantage of less chance of discovery than in-store lulz. Fail Holding a protest/flyer raid against the sale of the DVDs will only be fail. Only exception is if Tom Cruise himself is having a publicity event. Last edited by Major; 03-26-2009 at 10:00 AM.. |
