That was federal, and most provinces do hook any religious status to federal charity status (denied in 1999), but Québec is a special case.

Some of the taxation is handled provincially, and Québec is sometimes lighter on groups like Scientology and the Raelians (although they were supposed to be evacuating their Québec UFO base to California).
On the other hand, it could be that they're
acting like they have a tax-exemption in hopes that no one will question if they really do have it, or
still have it if they had one in the past. Getting definitive statements on religious tax status from offices at all levels in Canada is like pulling teeth, and they don't seem to talk to each other very much.
