Yes, signs! Make sure they have a simple message (family/children related, since this is reconnect) in big bold letters. Remember the audience here is primarily traffic; they need something easy to read.

Re: Battle Creek, MI
I shall be making my triumphant return... with a bigger sign and less baggage to lug around. I'm also trading in the Optimus Prime helmet for something a little more -Chan-friendly, I think.

Re: Battle Creek, MI
We were told it was illegal, but it was according to an old local law that was repealed in 2002... masks should be okay this time 'round. Cops can't make the same mistake twice.
Just in case, I'll stick with the Leonidas helmet. |

Re: Battle Creek, MI
Some things to keep in mind for the next protests:
1) Chan related signs are funny, but they are ineffective. We are there to spread awareness about the Cult of Scientology, not mudkips. We need to make signs that focus on Operation Reconnect. If anyone has ideas for some good signs, please share them. 2) When the police are around or we have a reporter there, don't crowd them. Let one or two people deal with them. When two people talk to a police officer, it's alright. When twenty people walk up to him and start shouting or crowding him, that's where things get out of hand. When ArresterAnon got Arrested last time, the reaction was unacceptable. It is surprising that more people didn't get in trouble for the stuff that people pulled. 3) If/when we have a reporter there, DO NOT RUSH OVER TO THEM! When we had the Battle Creek newspaper there, we had fifteen people around her yelling random stuff. Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but use it for other things. We already have a few people dedicated to press releases, so let them talk. A reporter does not need to hear "Scientology is a cult, lol!" from ten people at once while she is giving an interview. 4) If you don't have anything constructive to do (like if you are standing behind the protesters without a sign or anything) ask someone what to do. A few people have stepped up to help guide the group in the right direction (in b4 no leaders) so listen to them. They generally have good ideas that are productive and will help us get our point across. Last protest, we had about 15 people just standing around when they could have been on the main street with signs in hand preaching the truth to the public. 5 minute break is fine. 1 hour break, not so much. 5) Don't do anything that could be considered harassment. This includes yelling at a Scientologist, threatening one, flipping them off, making obscene gestures, or even waving at them. Yes. Waving at them can be considered harassment. Don't risk anything. 6) If Scientologists send kids over to mess with us (happened slightly on 3/15 and a lot on 3/29) DO NOT INTERACT WITH THEM! Period. Same rules for harassment apply doubly for children. Nobody wants to be known as "that guy who harassed the child." 7) Know your stuff. We've had too many people come into these situations who don't understand the root problems. Yes, it's easy to say that Scientology is a cult, but people want to know WHY they are a cult. They want to know WHY this isn't religious bigotry. Play smart and act smart. 8) Quite possibly the most important... NO MORE FUCKING MEME SPEAK! Whispering it amongst ourselves occasionally is fine. Screaming it at the top of your lungs for the city to hear isn't. One Anonymous member (possibly DoctorAnon) told us that she and her fellow Anons did nothing but talk about memes on the way to the protest so they would be "memed out" by the time they got there. Talk about Scientology, not mudkips and longcats. If anyone has anything to add to this list, feel free to do so. |

Re: Battle Creek, MI
I agree with HelicopterDavid, not to be a kiss-ass. When I look from a reflective point of view, we could've done a few things better, such as less meme-speak, more focus on the task at hand, etc.
I plan on patrolling the main corner and street across from the Scientology building, carrying fliers about the Disconnection policy, and a sign that has the norm, "Scientology destroys families". I might make it two sided, and have the other side say "Honk if you love your family" or something like that. Also, provided we get a permit, we should read off letters of those who have been disconnected. I've got one that was found on youfoundthecard.com written by Jenna Miscavige Hill. I'll post sign ideas later, as well as some fliers. |

Re: Battle Creek, MI
Yea, reading off letters would be a very strong tactic. I also like the idea of a sign that says honk if you love your family. Perhaps we could search around the BC area for an ex-Scientologist who has been a victim of the Disconnection Policy who would be willing to tell their story. That would work just as well, if not better.

Re: Battle Creek, MI
Yes, having a Battle Creek-area ex-Scientologist whose been a victim of the Disconnection policy would be awesome, if one could be found. Also, the time it takes to find someone whose been victimized like so would be difficult. If someone would like to take a swing at it, that would be nice, but I'd stick to letters or statements made by those affected by Disconnection.

Re: Battle Creek, MI
The best place to find information is to join the IRC channel. If you don't have it, follow these steps:
1) Download FireFox if you haven't already (it's better than Internet Explorer and has an IRC program built in). 2) After you have FireFox, go to Google, and search for "ChatZilla". 3) Download ChatZilla. 4) Follow all the instructions and everything, then open ChatZilla (located under 'Tools') 5) Once on ChatZilla, type in /server irc.lulzhost.net 6) Once you are in the server, type in /join #michevents That will bring you to the main Michigan events planning room. Make sure to choose a unique username that DOES NOT use your real name. It's very important that you don't share a lot of personal info. We will ask for some occasionally, but we won't ask for your name. |

Re: Battle Creek, MI
Bring anything to cover your face. Mask if you can, but also bring hats, sunglasses, scarves, dust mask, face paint, whatever. I can't imagine the police telling us to de-mask again but you never know.
Last time the pre-meet location was at the McDonalds on Columbia Ave. (West of Capital) fifteen minutes before the protest time, but I don't know what the 'guiders' are planning this time. Protest location is here: ![]() The CoS building is on the southwest side of the road, we will be on the northeast There is parking on the street right by the CoS building but they'll get your plate number. You're best off finding somewhere farther to park and walking/biking to the site. Quote:
Quote:
If it's legal, we could get people to hold up small signs that say "Ask me for info" or something at the stoplights. If people roll down their window at a red light and ask, give them flyers. Quote:
Advice and suggestions are fine, but no one should start trying to run the show like we're their personal army on a crusade to save the world. If you kill the lulz you're going to start losing people. The best place to find information should be right in this forum, this is where people are directed for the protests. If anyone knows what the general plans are then just post it. |

Yes, but when you start shouting it from the top of your lungs (especially at local businesses), it gets people to go "Excuse me, but WTF."

Re: Battle Creek, MI
Reaction to arrestanon was acceptable. We had some people go 'WHAT?!' and considering we did our research and were in the right, I saw nothing wrong with our reaction. The seargent was overbearing himself, and was unnecessarily aggressive. We were totally in the right, and our reaction was based on his unfairness. If an incident does happen like 3/15, be chill and let someone talk with the police. As we noticed during the counter protest, 12 people trying to ask the same question is epic fail (such as debating with old guy that freaked out on us).
Yes, when an Anon is doing an interview/talking with police, no one minds if you listen in, but don't crowd, or butt in. If you want to bring up a point, politetly whisper it to the anon that's talking and then let it go. There's nothing worse then attempting to talk with 12 people that all want to get their point across. Poor lady from BC Enquirer looked like she was in a damned gang bang. Go ahead and stand around and listen if needed, but take a few steps back and chill. However, we don't need EVERYONE listening. If you HAVE to know what's going on, just wait til afterwards and simply ask whoever was talking. Memes I've had issues with. Meme talk during the raid to your fellow anon I don't see a problem with, just as long as it doesn't distract your primary objective. We are all here to make a difference, but god damn I want to have fun with my /b/rothers as well. Meme's on posters are unacceptable. LRH = Pedobear picture, although ridiculously hilarious, anyone that's not a fucking internet nerd will be like 'wtf?' Our protest needs to be CLEAR, INFORMATIVE, and NOTICEABLE. Clear enough that a driver-by can take a quick look at the poster/sigh and clearly distinguish a quick fact about Scifags. Informative that we are giving out info/flyers that back up our posters and claims. Noticeable so that we are seen by the maximum amount of people. We had a problem with focusing on a primary protest point during the counter-protest. We were not really sure if we were opposing the CCHR, opposing Scientology, opposing the non-scifags there, opposing the views of the CCHR... We need to focus our attack. All of us need to do our own share of research on the disconnect policy so we can inflict maximum damage and hit Scientology for maximum hitpoints. Focus our signs for Operation Disconnect. Make flyers. Flyers full of stories of families torn apart, flyers of pictures of those kids that were separated. Promote exscientologykids. Quote Jenna Hill (David Miscavige's niece that left scientology). Quote her as NIECE OF THE HEAD OF SCIENTOLOGY. Even in a small city such as Battle Creek, we can make a difference. We have gotten significant amount of press and talk in the local area. If anyone wants to flyer this weekend, let me know. |

Considering the success of the NYC and San Francisco hug-raids, I was thinking of doing up a double-sided sign. One would say "FREE HUGS" in case we get friendly passers-by, and the other for the traffic would say "ANONYMOUS LOVES YOU" or something of that ilk. Both sides would have exscientologykids.com. I'm also going to beg, borrow or steal a T-shirt from a friend that says "Free Hugs, Today Only." If the Scilons are going to call us CommuNazi CyberTerrorists(TM), I think we should spread a little love!
Also, are any local BC Anons able to get a noise permit, say, from 2-6pm? That was we can play some awesome tunes. I nominate "All You Need is Love" by the Beatles, and "Why Can't We Be Friends?" by War. -Terry Pratchett Proud Rhodyfag: Keeping the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations 100% Scilon-Free! |
