Found this interesting considering WWP was harpooning Youtube in hopes of asking Obama about the cults' abuses.

At yesterday's National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama revealed that he still falls prey to the idea that religious beliefs are unimpeachable -- even when those beliefs affect the liberty of others.

I was going to c&p the entire article, but its really just an opinion piece but worth reading if the subject interests you. Good insight into the point of view politicans take that almost anything is allowed if you scream "religion." However, at least the Scieno's aren't a christian cult, most pols only seem worried about protecting religions is they happen to be about jesus or use the bible. Ain't too crazy about the rest, but the effect does extend some blanket coverage to others as well - fallout effect.

The mindset of it's all okay if its "religious" and we can't possibly risk offending anyone's religious sensabilities (even when it involved criminal and abusive practices) has got to go.

well that sucks, although it seems to be nothing new. The government doesn't seem to want to get involved with what they consider"touchy" subjects to them. Getting involved in Religious matters seems to be like the plague to them.

And when they do get involved, it usually does not end well. IMO

The real question is: Can Obama tell the difference between a practice based on a religious belief, and something that is seriously breaking the law and is very dangerous? Clinton couldn't seem to, and still seems to believe that Germany is persecuting Scientology for their religious beliefs. Despite Obama's campaign to think independently, he had to tow the line eventually. It happens to all politicians working within the two-party system: Please their party, or get out.
