I have been informed by a source that Scientology is filing multiple applications for street permits to close down LRH Way & the sidewalks around Big Blue for their future events.

As you can see, they have filed to close down LRH Way again for the next 2 weekends (part 2 & 3 of the 4-week series of Maiden Voyage). This borders on ridiculous and, no doubt, the cult will get away with it again.

Edit: Whatever happened to when Samantha Franklin and Lisa Derrick complained to the L.A. City Council? Was that issue just thrown out or ignored? Anyone got their contact so they can get notice to perhaps file a counter-complaint or notice to have these closures altered or undone?

This info has been forwarded to them...but the beef then was the closure almost EVERY WEEKEND of the street for graduations. The council may see this as a special event...but 4 weekends in a row is still BS.

So the cult has a "sidewalk selling permit" approved and issued by the city.

There exactly 3 types of permit offered. Each one has a clause in it that allows us access to the sidewalks.











OK, so let confirm this language. In the indemnification contract they use the language "street closure/Sidewalk selling" ...let me repeat that...STREET CLOSURES and SIDEWALK SELLING. there is no mention of sidewalk closures.





So the next question is: Is it active negligence or willful misconduct that is preventing us from accessing the sidewalks?

This permit say annual (that means once a year).

Also, if you live on the street, it is only closed to cars. Is this a "filming" permit for sidewalk closure, or is this just a street closure for a block party? It happens all the time in many cities. I'm sure if you live on LRH Way you might have problems getting your car in and out and you might be given notice to park elsewhere between certain hours. But, yes your mother can come and visit, just like if there was a marathon and the city closed the street.

WTF is the city giving closures until 1AM for??? Someone needs to clearly list the noise ordinances and have them fined, it usually is a certain amount of dB after 10pm or something like that. Technically their music blaring during protest probably violates the law.

I would highly recommend getting a decibel meter and having the local news come out and film some footage of how the church violates noise laws and imposes on residents.

We in socal are familiar with this issue, and it coming back is another chance to test the legalities of what they (scientology) are trying to do.

I can easily see a group closing off a street to traffic in LA...we have them all the time for markets, and car shows, and filming.

This closure request is NOT part of a filming request
And the street closure of July 3rd DID involve NO ACCESS to the sidewalks of passersby. It did involve access for residents. The scientologists placed fake plants and black cloth to block even viewing the street and sidewalk.

With the acreage that the cult owns, why should they have to fag up a small street and put anyone at inconvenience, especially residents, for even just one fucking day in a year?

If you need to have so many events that it has to spill over into the street so many times a year then it is about time you bought yourself a bigger auditorium/carpark to contain your private events.

Correct it does, but how? The 3 types of permits available clearly state you cannot close the sidewalks.

There is no check box for it. You type it in on a form that does not have the clause on the online data entry form. A board looking at for approval may have never seen the actual board approved paper application.

The people approving the online application may not even be aware that paper application, approved sometime in the past, does not allow for sidewalk closures.

Someone needs to stand before the board and speak and enter these paper application into the record. They need to make the board aware that Scientology is denying access to people based solely on their first amendment rights.

I would guess that: NOT having the clause on the data entry form does not make the clause invalid. You are *suppose to* honor the written application form, and sign to it.
