Now, for a small isolated french city up north, we have more than 80 members on the Ning and an average of 1500-2000 unique visitors a month. Some of these visitors are normal folks visiting the website after a raid or a protest, but also journalists, ministers, schools, government people, law enforcement (RCMP) etc according the google analytics. Your Ning becomes a decentralized website for planning, but also an information hub where normal people can get quick information about the cult after a raid or a protest.

If people see how the COS affects their life locally, they are more likely to join the fight.
I've been watching you guys and Hamburg, same results. Good to hear. Check out chatroll, they recently launched publicly and meshing it with ning has been really successful. (you can add their client as a widget) it adds an image board element and allows for anonymous posting. One of the biggest issues I've seen with ning is identity. Giving people an outlet to speak without handles has been a really positive move. (without having to resort to IRC, which had built in risks, especially if the sever is run by parties that aren't local or accountable.)

Also, I'd advocate giving your users information on other topics to drive community interaction.

Example:
We have a web tv channel feed that sits right next to our chat box. Plenty of nights we all just sit and watching it, discussing things unrelated to Project Chanology. We also have RSS feeds from tech related news, which fosters communication on topics non-Chanology related.

After a year, talking purely about Project Chanology has become pretty boring. Survival, growth of our local communities will rely upon building social groups, going beyond just "protesting".

Stagnation leads to lack of interest. Find ways to mitigate it.

My Alma mater was books, a good library... I could spend the rest of my life reading, just satisfying my curiosity.
