Louanne is really slacking off on this one. Not a sign of her. In RPF perhaps?

Maybe she goes by "Dave" nowadays.

“I’ve been assured it’s not a Scientology promotion,” Burke said.

    Case closed then.

Plus more mainstream media attention, albeit brief, from NBC...

Voice of Bart Simpson Testifies in Springfield
Nancy Cartwright is promoting a character-building program rooted in Scientology
    NBC Chicago 10th May 2011

No shit, NBC, I thought it was the fictional one, with a pretend debate and we were all living in cartoon land for a moment there.

"State Rep. Dan Burke (D-Chicago), the lead sponsor of House Resolution 254, said even though he’s read but three pages of Hubbard’s “Diametrics,” he is not interested in promoting the Florida-based religion that includes Cartwright and actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta as devotees."

mmm.... it looks like you already have though!
by saying "I’ve been assured it’s not a Scientology promotion"
that's it? Take her word just cause she is a celebrity?
    You have been duped sir,

Please don't bombard Rep. Burke's office today because they are in session. But, I have been assured by Rep. Burke's office that Cartwright is almost 100% NOT going to be coming to testify AND this resolution is dead in the water. Rep. Burke's assistant will be passing along the Ex-Scientology Kids website and my message that anything a Scientologist does is used as PR within the organization even if they're paying for it out of their own pocket.

I'll be contacting the office again tomorrow to see if they have stopped this bill. Harpoons away if the bill survives.

Nancy Cartwright in Illinois? DO NOT WANT.

    THIS!

My first reaction to pols like this uninformed chappie is first anger and disgust. By the next day I'm ready to poon. Sounds like Rep. Burke is at least not one of those idiots who doggedly stand by their stupid mistakes. And really, getting suckered by clams promoting some noxious crap for other people's children isn't that stupid. It's easy to be hoodwinked by their slick PR. But the stupid really kicks in when you tell them "You are making a mistake here," and they refuse to listen.

    There's hope for Burke?

Let's hope there's hope for Burke. It seems this all fell in his lap this past weekend and from the way the assistant sounded it probably was a "hoodwinked by their slick PR" thing.

Almost forgot: I also called Rep. Jerry Mitchell's Springfield office and left the same message about Sci's using everything for PR and the Ex-Sci Kids website. Rep. Mitchell is the already smart cookie saying NONONO to this resolution.

"Burke said he became enthusiastic about backing the resolution because it would be “fun to have Bart Simpson’s voice down there.”
    ^^^this taken from this blog:
Bart Simpson, Scientology, and Illinois Character Education

    By teganx7
"The link is important … I couldn’t make this up. Yes, character is an issue … and it is important for schools to play some role in this.
The Illinois legislature is considering a bill that would require Illinois schools to adopt the “Good Choices” program for character education.
    Sounds good.
The “Good Choices” program was created by a non-profit organization headed by Nancy Cartwright, better known as the actress who voices Bart Simpson on The Simpsons. No kiddin’ she is even going to Springfield, (Illinios) to lobby on it behalf.
At issue: Cartwright has publicly admitted that the program is based on The Way to Happiness, written by L. Ron Hubbard. In case you aren’t aware, Cartwright is a Scientologist.
I don’t know enough about Scientology to critique it too much. However, if a Catholic priest lobbied the legislature to use a biblically inspired program, or a rabbi did the same based on the Torah, or >>insert any figure associated with any religion<< associated with >>insert religion here<<<, that should be an automatic red flag that it needs to really not be introduced in public education.
Wait … we haven’t even gotten to the good part yet.
In a rare move, it is the Illinois Republicans standing up against this, and a Democrat, Dan Burke of Chicago, who has sponsored the bill. He has admitted that he knows little about the religion that this might be tied to, but that didn’t stop him from immediately sponsoring the bill and getting the process going.
So, why do you ask, would one of our elected officials sign off on a bill that he pretty much admits that he knows something about. Unlike most of the business suited morons among our elected officials, he was upfront in admitting it.

Initial reservations set aside, Burke said he became enthusiastic about backing the resolution because it would be “fun to have Bart Simpson’s voice down there.”
Its such a damn good thing our state isn’t in a financial crisis … especially our schools, because otherwise I would be more worried than I am.
Politicians, PLEASE stay out of education. PLEASE!!!?"
