Anyone who thinks how someone is dressed is giving some form of implied consent to anything should be run, crotch-first, into the nearest fire-hydrant until their attitude is adjusted. Come the trial and sentencing, what someone was wearing should be completely irrelevant.

In terms of crime prevention, however, the same advice stands as for how not to be mugged, gay-bashed, etc:

• Don't look like a target.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Avoid situations where crime is more likely, such as at night with few people around.

A woman dressed to the nines, wobbling home alone from a bar at night certainly isn't asking to be raped, but it does greatly increase her chance of being targeted by vermin. I wish it wasn't so, but there it is.

I hope that these SlutWalks will increase awareness that women can wear whatever they damned well want and doesn't mean they're asking or consenting to anything, but I still think it's going to take fire-hydrants for some.

Numbers 2 and 3 make sense, number 1 not so much. Sexual assaults are usually crimes of opportunity, so looking like a target is totally situational. I grew up in a tough neighborhood during a tough time where popular wisdom held that the best way to become a victim was to 'look' or 'act' like one. Of course no one could actually define those terms.
