Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous St Anger and Death Magnetic, both released after the Napster Stuff are certified double platinum and broke multiple sales records upon their respective releases. Metallica still can sell out huge venues all over the world. I'd say they're doing just fine.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous Actually I was searching this thread for mention of those artists on my list and saw a post by anonymous that included "80's Metalica" as a "Timeless Artist." Also you are absolutely right. I wouldn't say KISS falls into the same category as Metallica. I listen to a lot of music too, but not a lot that I would consider "timeless." At least, I wouldn't quiet yet, and I saw fit to limit the list to artists who were around when KISS was particularly popular.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous I also remember seeing a video of lars saying he didn't care that people downloaded their songs, it was when people where loading I Disappear when the song wasn't even released yet is what bothered them. and in that same video, during one tour with some other bands, james hurt his back so kid rock and Jonathan Davis from korn played in place. and at the end of the show lars said himself, "if you weren't happy come bak next year with your stub" and they are willing to help other bands. they fought to get slayer on guitar hero metallica
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous And yet I remember when people were getting permabanned from napster for sharing Metallica. They were the trailblazers of attempting to quash piracy by lawsuit. They paved the way for the thousands of lawsuits that followed.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous from them it was about people downloading a song that wasn't even released yet at the time. i do remember hearing about the band complaining about that back then
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous Goodnight Sweet Princess Ari Up, gone but never forgotten.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous Lars Ulrich Interview: Napster and Beyond - Metallica World There is hardly any room for rational debate that they have some talent and are pro-artist. However, how they acted and their motives are what is at issue. There is no denying these artist need money to live. If Metallica, Gene Simmons, and the RIAA were only targeting free P2P providers then I wouldn't give a rat's ass. However, Gene Simmons and the RIAA are after both the programs and the users of these programs. Metallica was mostly against Napster and the idea that they had no control of what happens to their music on the Internets. Sadly, because they appeared to be siding with the RIAA, they got the rep of just being in it for the money. The problem lies in the fact that Metallica had good intents about that battle against Napster. It ended up making them look like a puppet for the RIAA. Whether Metallica meant to look that way or not is up for speculation. While they are still successful and look unscathed by the debacle, the cloud is still over them and some people have outright stopped listening to them. Granted, that isn't mature since they do have some rather good songs, there are a few that view Metallica as sold out. Now as far as Gene Simmons acting this way: By doing what he is doing, he is just making himself look like a puppet for the RIAA as well. That ends up being counterproductive and his statements seem more juvenile than wise.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous And suing a random batch of kids for a small fortune each is TOTALLY a proportional response to them downloading some songs.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous Okay, Metalligreed, maybe. But KISS... Heavy Metal??? Methinks not. Not even close. They were never metal. They were hard rock, maybe- but metal? As a die-hard metalhead who can't live without his daily doses of Manowar, Primal Fear, Hammerfall and Disturbed, I find that notion horrifying, bordering on offensive. Oh wait.. this is Anonymous- that's par for the course. Never mind.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous Captain Beefheart. Roxy Music/ Bryan Ferry. Joy Division. Not many people listen to them, but I hear their influence everywhere. They make more sense now than they did 30 years ago. Ahead of the times. Unlike Gene who will always be a time capsule of 1975.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous I got kicked off napster by Lars. And I'd paid for his fucking vinyl.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous It used to be that artists made all their money on record sales and toured to promote the record. Now it has reversed. The artist now puts out an album to get people to come to their shows. Take a look at some of the newer acts, they're constantly touring because they know that once the record comes out it's all over the internet for free. They make more money off the T-shirts and other merchandise than they do in record sales.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous You people will never make sense to me ever again. I just come here to confound you.

Let's change this up abit, eh? Watch this great ICON... YouTube - Stompin' Tom Connors - Big Joe Mufferaw (Live 2005) YouTube - Stompin' Tom Connors - The Ketchup Song (Live 2005) This is the Canadian hockey song... YouTube - Stompin Tom Connors - The Hockey Song You don't get better than this on the hockey shit. YouTube - Creedence Clearwater Revival: Someday Never Comes What is sad is that John Fogerty isn't showing in that video, yet that is his voice. The only voice of CCR is John Fogerty Who gives 2 fucks about Gene Simmons, fact is, there are too many bands better than him and his stupid dysfunctional tongue and his bat wings, how silly is that?
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous A confounding variable is a variable which has an unintentional effect on the dependent variable. When carrying out experiments, scientists attempt to control extraneous variables, however there is always the possibility that one of these variables is not controlled and if this affects the dependent variable in a systematic way, we call this a confounding variable. Do you have a confounding variable?

Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous Didn't work in a music store as a kid, didja? "Platinum" records and their ilk are nigh worthless. Why? Because they count albums sold at the warehouse, not the counter. Major 'music' chains will purchase metric FUCKTONS of major label releases which are then shipped out to the individual stores, and flogged with the determination posessed only by the late teen/early 20 store salesperson, looking to bump store stats in the vain hope of recognition. Most of the albums that the studio counts as 'purchased' will end up back at the chain's stock warehouse, to be pulled out for bargain bin 'promotions' 9 months down the track to make way for the next shameless whoring of the FOTM. Don't believe me? Ausfags, when was the last time you saw a Shannon Noll album outside the bargain bin/promo rack? That motherfucker went multi-platinum too...
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous That asswipe Gene Simmons is so done. Way too many bands better than that ass and his stupid makeup and tongue.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous Also, they'll pull out stock of an artist's older alblum hoping to ride the coattails of a new release. U2's first three releases were a classic exaqmple. Boy got ignored until October started to gain attention on MTV, but it was War, and it's MTV rotation that got Boy and October selling bigtime.
Re: Gene Simmons goes to war with Anonymous Karma strikes. From Perez Hilton, Poor guy! Yesterday, KISS king Gene Simmons was taken to Centinela Hospital after he fainted in LAX. Sources close to the singer say that he hit his head after fainting from dehydration. He suffered a minor cut to his head, but was kept over night for observation regardless.
