Speaking as one who was in the cult and is ex-Sea Org and as someone who was completely indoctrinated and who was forcibly disconnected from someone I loved, I can tell you that there is a grief that goes along with being told you have to disconnect from someone who you don't personally feel is "a true SP".

It didn't matter how many other friends and family of that person I talked to who all said "Yeah, she's got some things to work out."

I was in grief (but only when I thought about her). And it was deep.

And for all those who were never in, I'm telling you this grief is REAL, it is created by COS without them mitigating it. They don't fucking care if their "parishioners" are in grief over not being able to see someone or talk to them. Some church, heh?

Fuck Scientology. Fuck 'em all to hell!

And when I was in the Sea Org and was talking to one of the young gals there (not a minor) she told me she wasn't allowed to have contact with her mom because she was an SP. I saw the sadness and longing in her eyes.

And if anyone else thinks that Mandy is NOT grieving for the relationship and contact with her Mom "because she's indoctrinated", think again. I'm sure she grieves, too. She's just has to hide it, or deal with it however she can. This letter written by the mums and hand delivered to Sgt. Torres at the Hollywood police station and into the HGB building explains "the situation".

Dear Scientology,

On Wednesday, March 4th, 2009, Ms. Susan Talbot arrived in Los Angeles after an exhausting flight from London, England. She came to see her daughter, Mandy, who she had not seen for over 11 years. She hadn’t heard her daughter’s voice for more than nine of those years, every single call having gone unreturned.

Did Mandy even know about the messages her mother left?

In her sixties and recovering from open-heart surgery, Ms. Talbot scraped together the money to come to Los Angeles on the off chance that you, Scientology, would allow her to spend an hour with the daughter she has loved unflinchingly through all the years and miles that have separated them. But when Ms. Talbot arrived at Scientology’s front desk last Wednesday, she was turned away by a man whose hands trembled as he delivered the hard news, “You know what the situation is.”

Yes…Ms. Talbot knew what the situation is. The situation is called disconnection, a policy that your spokesperson, Tommy Davis, claimed on national television does not exist. But it does exist, doesn’t it, Scientology. Ms. Talbot would not be seeing her daughter that day – or any other day – because of your policy which states a child must forever disconnect from a parent if that parent has fallen out of good standing with the church.

So, we ask you, Scientology, is it right that Mandy was forced to disconnect from her mother simply because Ms. Talbot asked for a refund for a course that did not deliver what it had promised her?

To you, Scientology, this makes perfect sense.

But to the mother who bears a child, and pours love into that child, and keeps that child’s sweet face ever present before her eyes…no. Disconnection does not make sense.

Ms. Talbot was not happy that her daughter had gone along with your disconnection policy, but she did her best to live with it. She lasted nearly a decade before the maternal urge to look into her daughter’s eyes and to hear her daughter’s voice became too strong to resist. Ms. Talbot came to America to see her daughter just one last time before her life faded away. She wanted to hear from Mandy’s own lips that she was happy being in Scientology, that she was healthy and being treated well. Ms. Talbot had no thought of talking Mandy out of being a Scientologist – not if that was what her daughter really wanted for herself. Susan Talbot just wanted one hour to look into her daughter’s face, and to hold her in her arms, and to pour every ounce of love she had into her precious little girl…just one last time on earth.

But Ms. Talbot knew what the situation was when the man with the trembling hands steadfastly refused her plea, then set a security guard on her as she reluctantly left the building. That’s how Scientology works, right? Your policies cannot be broken. Not even the ones Tommy Davis says do not exist.

So, Ms. Talbot turned to her friends for help.

Armed with nothing more than signs, voices, and determination, a rag tag group of protesters – mothers mostly – hit the streets to fight for the woman who wanted to see her daughter after 11 years and 6,000 miles.

“Why won’t let Scientology let this mother see her daughter?”

“Let this mother spend an hour with her daughter!”

“Tommy Davis said there is no disconnection policy, so why can’t this mother talk to her daughter?”

“Tell Mandy Kember her mother loves her!”

Our protest went on for seven hours – all the while your security guards Andy Knapp, Frank Paolo, and Alec attempting to “handle” our small but noisy group.

Your guards were friendly at first, but they grew steadily more intense as time passed and your strict order to silence us could not be accomplished. By day’s end, stress was deeply etched into the faces of your guards and Sea Org members alike, a painful byproduct of your relentless demand that they make the situation “go right”.

Furrowed brows.

Bloodshot eyes.

Downcast frowns.

Again we ask you, Scientology. Is it right to simply demand that a person “make it go right” under the threat of more lost privileges, and more restrictions, and more time under the glaring spotlight of a sec checker?

Were we somehow able to ask this question of the mothers of the guards and Sea Org members you pressured so fiercely that day, surely the answer would be no. Mothers don’t like it when people mistreat their children, no matter how grown up they are.

Mothers don’t like it when people mistreat another mother’s child, either.

Mistreating children goes against our nature.

We couldn’t help but see the pain you were inflicting on your children, Scientology.

And we didn’t like it.

As we mothers left the scene that day, we did not feel the victors. Though no less determined to return the next day – and the next and the next, if need be, to fight for Ms. Talbot’s right to see her daughter, not one person among us felt good about what we had seen in the faces of your children that day. There was no celebration in us as we drove away from your building on Hollywood Blvd.

That evening, the conversation between us “mums” wasn’t about our aching muscles or rasping voices. It wasn’t even about Mandy or Ms. Talbot’s growing anxiety. What we discussed more than anything that night was your security guards, Andy and Frank and Alec, and the river of sad Sea Org faces that had drifted by us throughout the prior day.

And so it was that when we returned to protest the next day and saw even deeper lines and redder eyes and sadder frowns, our hearts broke for what you were doing to your children. What you did to Ms. Talbot’s child, Mandy, was especially despicable, Scientology. And don’t think we don’t know that you kept her up all night drilling her about what to tell your man Sgt. Torres at the Hollywood police station. We could easily point the finger of shame at you right now, Scientology, but we know what the situation is.

Policy is policy, right?

We could protest your building there on Hollywood Blvd for a hundred years and nothing would ever change. Nothing would change because L. Ron Hubbard died before some antidote to his despicable policy of family disconnection could be issued to salvage this dead-end situation.

Yeah. We know what the situation is.

A dead man issued a dead policy that endeadens everyone in its path.

And you continue to let it.

Because policy is policy.

And Scientology couldn’t care less about the emotional toll this policy extracts from its sons and daughters and parents.

But we care, Scientology. And because we care, we will not be back to protest for Ms. Talbot’s right to see her daughter Mandy.

Because we care about your children, we will not be the cause of their stress lines and bloodshot eyes and downcast frowns.

We will not be the cause of knowledge reports and relentless security checking and drilling people with your invented answers long into the night.

We will not be the cause of fear-filled running because of the lies you tell your children about us.

We will not be the cause of sleep deprived nights, lost wages, increased restrictions, and mind-numbing corrective courses imposed on those who can’t magically “make it go right” for you.

We will not be the cause of some unfortunate soul ending up on the RPF for accidently showing us a moment of compassion.

No, Scientology, we will not be back to protest for Ms. Talbot’s right to see her daughter after 11 years and 6,000 miles. We will not be the reason you use to callously abuse the fundamental human rights of your captive children.

But this isn’t a win for you, Scientology.

For all your policies and your “tech” and your money, you are no match for the simple power of a mother’s love.

I think in the end it was still a very effective protest. A lot of people seemed to be interested in what was going on, and the use of cameras and YouTube just goes to prove that Disconnection and Fair Game do indeed exist.

One thing few people knew about Susan Talbot was that she is recovering from open heart surgery which occurred only a few months ago. As mentioned before, the protesting was extremely challenging for her. Yet, it wasn't the physical strain that led us to call off the raids earlier this week. This letter written by the mums and hand delivered to Sgt. Torres at the Hollywood police station and into the HGB building explains "the situation".

The moment this letter was delivered, Susan Talbot breathed a huge sigh of relief - and for the first time since I met her, I saw a real smile.

Susan said she had a good feeling about her trip to America. Her 'mum's intuition' delivered a comforting message. Susan had done everything she could to assure her daughter she still loved her. For the next few hours, the British Mum let her hair down and had some fun on Hollywood Blvd.

This is a tribute to the smile that was long in coming from the woman who had come so far.

Have just got home, its 4 pm, had a cupa of tea & put my computer on, saw all your lovely messages & the tears are pouring down my face, thank you so much everyone, words can not express how I feel, I had such a wonderful experience in USA & will never forget all your kindness. I really bonded with Glib, Resistence, Smurff & Casper, I love them so much.

I met another angel on the plane, educated her on the evil cult, she will watch all the videos, when she gets home, she gave me a little card with a pretty picture on & it said "Use your love in bringing Peace to the World" , she also said "We were ment to met", that how I feel about you guys, we were ment to met, I have never experienced so much Love before. Thank you.

I am so looking forward to seeing the videos from this weekend, I am not anywhere near a Scientology building. East Grinstead is about 4 hours from me & London even longer, but at least I have my computer, so can watch. It would be an honour to protest with you, maybe when I get another holiday.

Hi, this information is a bit wrong. I did have heart surgery, but it was 3 years ago & havent flown on a plane since, but on the whole I am OK, but I am 60 now, so get a little tired. xxx
