Jeff's article on Project Chanology article by Jeff Jacobsen on Project Chanology I did this for 3 hours of credit toward my Political Science degree.
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology DUDE, YOU TOTALLY ROCK! I would give you an A+ ...and caek too! May we copy/pasta this paper to our friends? Thanks for all your contributions to the cause, and especially this latest one!!
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology AAAAAA++++++ would read again but Longcat and Tacgnol preceded "lolcats" and "icanhascheezburger." In fact, what later became known as "lolcats" originated in the /b/ observance of Caturday --years before the concept was (mis)appropriated and commercialized. also: Important Typo Alert: The Anonymous sites took notice of Scientology's attempt to stamp out this video from public view and considered it an attack on free speech on the Internet. On a forum in 4chan.org an anonymous poster on August (sic) 15 wrote:It was January of course.
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology Dammit! I threw in pictures here and there so you wouldn't get scared of all the words!
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology I lol'ed hard at "In case of emergency, break galss." This is really excellent and I will be referring people to it. It is a long paper and I hope you will write up a short version for us to distribute. One thing to consider for future writing are the polls on age and religion on WWP. WWP Age Poll WWP Religion There are biases here, but are the only data we have. I find them useful in explaining the movement.
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology Quick tidbit, "Scilons" possibly came from the reference to the show "BattleStar Galactica" For how "Skin Jobs" infiltrate and sabotage things. More random fact than essential.
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology Fantastic work Jeff! thks for the Creative Commons release, i wish more people would do that so that more written works would go viral sooner. when submitting it to digg i noticed it had already been partially republished on a recap/scraper blog. digg link coming soonly... they went offline for updates shortly after i got it submitted and i didnt grab the url beforehand.
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology very nice job Jeff... (and just ignore the tl;dr comments...not all communication should be done in 1-second sound bites, no matter how much some may wish it could!)
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology we haz digg... Digg - We Are Legion: Anonymous and the war on Scientology
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology Slight mistake when talking about the Message to Scientology video: Media coverage leading up to that video, on the same day of that video and about the video itself was enough to help get those views: * Fri, 11 Jan 2008 15:08:00 GMT - Gawker mentions Morton's bio * Sun, 13 Jan 2008 20:29:00 GMT - Gawker posts Cruise video * Sun, 13 Jan 2008 23:04:00 GMT - Huffington Post links video * Sun, 13 Jan 2008 23:34:00 GMT - Huffington says video is down * Mon, 14 Jan 2008 00:00:00 GMT through Tue, 15 Jan 2008 00:00:00 GMT - Video faces multiple copyright threats. * Mon, 14 Jan 2008 16:47:00 GMT - Radar posts YouTube version * Mon, 14 Jan 2008 19:00:00 GMT - Morton's Cruise bio published * Tue, 15 Jan 2008 10:18:00 GMT - Gawker reposts Cruise video * Tue, 15 Jan 2008 18:11:00 GMT - Anon seeks DDoS against COS on 711chan * Tue, 15 Jan 2008 19:37:37 GMT - Anon seeks DDoS against COS on 4chan * Wed, 16 Jan 2008 08:18:00 GMT - Gawker relinks reposted video * Wed, 16 Jan 2008 12:18:00 GMT - Gawker: Scieno rebuttal to bio * Wed, 16 Jan 2008 14:27:00 GMT - Gawker posts copyright violation notice * Wed, 16 Jan 2008 17:47:44 GMT - Anon announces war on 4chan * Wed, 16 Jan 2008 18:06:00 GMT - PROJECT CHANOLOGY on ED * Thu, 17 Jan 2008 19:00:00 GMT - Operation Clambake disclaims the DDoS * Thu, 17 Jan 2008 22:00:00 GMT - Anderson Cooper 360 features vid * Fri, 18 Jan 2008 09:28:00 GMT - Gawker once again relinks vid * Fri, 18 Jan 2008 19:00:00 GMT - Tons of anti-scientology links start hitting digg and making the front page. * Sun, 20 Jan 2008 00:48:00 GMT - Wikinews first reports DDoS * Sun, 20 Jan 2008 23:06:00 GMT - Gawker continues to relink vid * Mon, 21 Jan 2008 12:15:01 GMT - Message To Scientology posted to 4chan * Mon, 21 Jan 2008 21:25:00 GMT - Gawker reports on 1st Wave (message to scientology video embedded) * Wed, 23 Jan 2008 00:30:00 GMT - Wikinews reports Message to Scientology video * Wed, 23 Jan 2008 21:55:00 GMT - Something Awful Thread Starts * Tue, 22 Jan 2008 18:10:00 GMT - Warren Ellis supports Anon * Thu, 24 Jan 2008 14:41:00 GMT through Sat, 26 Jan 2008 14:41:00 GMT - Anon War Declaration in Media. Fox, Sky news, and about 30 others all cover/show the video. There are a hundred more from that first couple weeks. But there was tons of coverage. Yes lots of it was on Gawker, but a lot of the Gawker stuff was being picked up by other news organizations and reported on. Lots of blogs and other sites were reporting on the fight as well. We had sites with hundreds of thousands of viewers linking to and embedding the video. We had news broadcasts only a couple days afterword showing the video. It got great coverage. I am not attacking you, love the writeup, just saying that part was slightly misleading. ps: this data brought to you by the timeline project which could always use some more help
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology This looks like a pop-corn session. Will try to read some time later on. Looks like you spent a great deal of time writing it up.
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology AWesome - best couple hours reading I've had in ages. Nice work but I second the copypasta request. I know a few agencies that might be interested in this.
Re: Jeff's article on Project Chanology You can copy the article for non-commercial purposes. You can read the Creative Commons agreement linked on the front page. It's different from standard copyright.
