Although Landen Gambill has not publically revealed the name of her alleged rapist, an ex-boyfriend, she was told she violated the University of North Carolina’s honor code just by reporting the rape. Her attacker claims he is ‘intimidated’ because Gambill has spoken about the sexual attack.

Until last summer, UNC's seemingly backwards policy previously directed reports of sexual misconduct to Honor Court because it was an inter-student grievance.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill said Tuesday that it is suspending an Honor Court case against a student who accuses the school of retaliating against her for filing a federal complaint about the handling of sex assault cases on campus.

Gambill is one of five women who asked the U.S. Education Department's Office of Civil Rights to look into what they called an atmosphere of sexual violence at the school. She maintains that the honor code violation was retribution by the university for filing the complaint and speaking publicly about her case.

A college student and her supporters held a rally today to oppose her expulsion because school administrators say that she is 'intimidating' her alleged rapist by publicly discussing a sexual assault.
The victim, a female sophomore at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, went through the school-sanctioned order of filing a complaint against her fellow student and ex-boyfriend who she claims raped her.
Rather than remain anonymous she has publicly released her name- Landen Gambill- spoken in news interviews, and even talked about her own experiences at a public rally pushing for the school to increase their support for victims.

Gambill's previous experience with the Honor Court was detailed in the OCR complaint. It's the venue in which Gambill attempted to resolve the sexual assault and stalking she claims she suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. Gambill said the process was traumatizing, and she believes her privacy rights were violated during it. (All of which is under review by the Education Department; UNC no longer uses the Honor Court to handle sexual assault cases.)

It worked.

This is what she was charged with. The administrator that helped the suspect file the claim overreached.
