The thing I like about Pandora is it finds stuff that's similar to other stuff you've already liked, even if it's far afield from what you first started on. It gets better as you use it. Still, once you have an idea, your idea may be better.
Free spotify was not a viable business model. So unfortunately there's no point protesting, you were going to lose it either way. We thought it was too good to be true...
