One of the big money making drives by the IAS has been in order to buy sets of the basics for donation to libraries. Folks like Johnny D here have given sizeable chunks of change in this endeavour. Wonder how Johnny D would feel to know that the book above ended up in a charity shop? So enters The Great Library Survey. Chanologists are all over the planet, and there is no reason we couldn’t gather enough hard dox to show the library donations were a scam, and to produce hard information that nowhere near the number of books have been distributed that have been claimed by the IAS. Each area will have to do their own coordination, but the intention to get the following information from every library we can: - What Scientology-related books does the library have? - Did that library receive a set of the basics? I’ll get the ball rolling. Ireland, County Monaghan: Clones: WIS book, WIS DVD. Monaghan: WIS DVD. Carrickmacross: Nothing. All donated books for the county are routed through Clones, and they have confirmed they have NEVER received any basics books. I would guess that almost every public library has a catalog online. This research can all be done from the comfort of your own home. Step 1: get a list of library catalogs Step 2: search the catalogs for "Scientology" and "Hubbard" Step 3: ??? Step 4: profit.
I checked the Clairemont library here. Asked about sets of books from Scientology. Guy had no idea what I was talking about.
See question 2. Understand the thrust of the project. Get a clue. No idea where that is. You will need to give a full address. Can I take it that the library hasn't received any Scientology books? Ambiguity will only undermine this project.
Please elaborate why searching library catalogs will not get the information you are looking for. I don't understand why you need people to go and check the stacks themselves.
Want to prove Libraries never received books. Something that is clear from the OP, and not doable online.
It's very hard to prove that a library never received the books. A library may have received them but decided not to put them on the shelf. If the books are not in the catalog, would that not prove that they are not on the shelf? Still not understanding the difference between checking the catalog online vs. the stacks in person.
Hence the whole suggestion of ASKING the library. Because that isn't the issue. Talk about being a moron.
we have quite a few of his books smattered about the city but there is usually only one copy at one of the libraries vs all copies at all libraries. I checked the library in Birmingham UK (just a short walk from the scientology org) a while ago. The archaic library info system lists some scilon books but when I went to look for them, there wasn't a single one to be found. Either demand for Hubbard tech is high, or someone ditched them years ago.
A lot of library systems have a centralised place that process donated books. Find that and contact them. That way you can get some idea of how many books were actually donated, which is the information I'm really after.
Whether they're on the shelf is not the issue. Whether the library received copies at all is. Just because a library receives books doesn't mean they put them on the shelf. If I donate a bunch of porn magazines to the library they wouldn't shelve them. If I donated a book they had ten copies of they wouldn't shelve it. In a lot of cases they'd either turn down the books or throw them out because they aren't suitable (shitty condition, inappropriate content, etc) or they'd sell them at one of the library fundraisers for a few cents. The What Is Scientology? book, for instance, sells for $100 new from Barnes and Noble, but I picked it up for ten cents, because the library sells shit like that just to get rid of them. And the Scientology books would be some of the stuff they wouldn't necessarily shelve, because no one but scientologists would ever want to check them out, and other than here, there just aren't enough scientologists for it to be worth it. If CoS is claiming copies of the Basics were sent to X number of libraries, they aren't claiming they can be checked out from X number of libraries. They don't have any control over that. But if it turns out they weren't even SENT to X number of libraries, that means that CoS is lying. Again. EDIT: Which is why the OP has repeatedly said you should ASK THE LIBRARY. Which is why you need to go in person.
No U. Look it up in the catalog. This can be done for almost any library. This is not so simple as it seems. The person you ask sitting behind the counter probably won't know. You have to get a hold of the right person, assuming that they even want to answer that question for you.
Did the same thing back in '08 or so when they had that big drive to first donate all the books...actually, let me see if I still have the booklet from it, I originally got it from inside one of the Flag buildings, so it's what they were claiming to Scientologists, not to wogs.
I checked my local library's catalog and they have 151 books and tapes by hubbard. Some are his novels but most are scientology related.

If there are no books in the library find the person(s) who deal with donated books and find out if the library ever received a set of books.

I used to check all the libraries in my city here in Canada including the universities and colleges for Scilon books and every one of them had a large number of their books. The only thing was someone had vandalized every one of them by glueing in flyers such as the famous Xenu one from clambake. This person also wrote in the margins some very funny comments. This was also happening to LRH's scifi books as well. Only one book had a label in it showing who donated the book. Since Canada has a small population it was very easy to find out just who this person was. Turns out this person was the ED of an org 2 provinces away and over 1000 miles away from my town. Who knows what is up with that. Later on I would find that all of the Scilon books were missing from the shelves of most the libraries in town. I did a check of their catalog on the computer and found various reasons for this. Some were thrown out because the vandalism was just too great and some were lent out but never returned. Scilons stealing their own books? LOL. Much later on I noticed at one branch that the library was selling off some Scilon books that were brand new. It seems the org was again donating more books but this branch had had enough and was selling them. These days the only branch that has new Scientology books is our main one and so far no vandalism although I do see flyers inserted in them from time to time. At the same time I notice that nobody ever takes them out on loan either. It is just my opinion but I think the local Scilons are all tapped out of money to do anymore donations at the moment. I don't blame them, they already gave to the cause so why should they go through this again.

Having been to 8 libraries in Southern IN on a regular basis, the only $cifag book I have seen was Dianetics, and that WAS AT THE BOOK RECYCLER! IF any of these libraries (I only asked two) received any books, they used them for firewood. So far we are free of the cult's influence. Dissapointing to go there with a big stock of YFTC's and nothing to put them in!
