Their government is monitoring social media. They need backchannels.

Did they shut down the web?

If they've shut down the web Den won't be able to reach us for a while. Guess they don't want the world to see their actions. Hopefully the protestors can still gather the video and/or pictures until they can be posted. I'll get some blue and yellow ribbon then tie it on as many street signs or lamp posts as legally possible. God bless you and your countrymen Den. Good luck and we hope to hear from you soon.

Looks like the live Fox feed is gone as well.

    I've still got fox.
  9. Anonylemmi Member

Fox is still up for me as well.
  10. Watcher Member

Fox feed is back for me. I was getting a "does not exist" message for a short time.

This is a non-violent website. But as an ex-warrior, I am inclined to say fuck ribbons, send them something they can USE.

I think this may well be the Franz Ferdinand moment of our time. If Putin rolls in there to "bring peace" ....i don't want to even consider the results.

Sochi wraps up on Sunday :(
  18. Nancy Beazley Member

I don't think Putin is distracted by Sochi. But I don't think he will invade.

It's time for EU / US sanctions. FAST.

Did anyone just see that guy breaking up the sidewalk with a sledge hammer?
  20. Nancy Beazley Member

    Sorry, was on another thread.

BTW, you guys know those fires are fueled mostly by burning tires, right?

Can you imagine the pollution down there? It appears the good guys are on the upwind (clean air) side of the fires.
  21. Anonylemmi Member

The explosions and fire are increasing. My heart aches for them. It sucks to be a poor private citizen without my own personal army and air force.
  22. Anonylemmi Member

    I see structures burning.
  23. laughingsock Member

Why should Putin care? He laughs at everyone, basically spits on Obama. His buddy china owns DC.

If that is mostly tires burning, then people downwind could be in a world of hurt.

Because the reality is that there is no love lost between Russia and China, they will eventually go to war over disputed territory for strategic reasons. Putin needs to keep the population boosting bulk of Ukraine in his sphere to that end.

One thing's for sure, tomorrow when i see the sun rise in my peaceful routine I'll be thinking of the sunrise I'm seeing on my screen right now. It's going to be a long day for them.

Ay fuckin men, brother. I have been a mighty warrior. But now I am small and weak and far away. Not being able to help in any meaningful way makes me feel like... a democrat.

The anchors (in the small window) are all young and casually dressed. I can't imagine they're government-friendlies.
  32. Anonylemmi Member

You never know. I was once a Young Republican.
  33. Nancy Beazley Member

I'm honestly surprised these scenes aren't taking up more airtime on US mainstream media news programs.

I'm not well-informed on this conflict. I couldn't guess what is going to come of it.

I take hope from the example of a great, low death count conflict/revolution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peaceful_Revolution. The circumstances aren't terribly alike, but it's a hope.

I hope also. When the Wall came down in East Germany it was more peaceful than I could possibly have hoped for. What are the chances of lightening striking twice?

Chances? Low. There's no contemporaneous Glasnost. And Gorbachev was trying to break up the USSR, not put the tastier pieces of it back together.

On the Fox feed, there is smoke coming out of the large building on the left. This does not bode well.
  39. Anonylemmi Member

Wait a minute, there are rows of porta-pottys that people are politely using right in front of the burning building. Looks like a holiday revolution. My hopes are increasing.

This is so strange. I have never seen anything like this. I never imagined anything like this. Is it possible the media coverage could prevent a full scale free-for-all war? The fear of looking bad in the world's eyes?
