    Well we did it, but now we get to wait to see if the gov't responds to this or not. Most likely not. Still, I recommend a press release or more, just to make this petition a troll vs Scifags as well.

    WE'RE WINNING!

    I just got back from a client meeting, 30 minutes before the 9 PM deadline, expecting to see the ticker at about 4,940. OMG it was at 5112. You guys ROCK.

    I think the press release is a great idea-and Anonymous does have a press email list of over 9,000.

    In addition, there is the general White House email and telephone system to start sending educational messages to. I was going to draft one tomorrow.....and for that we need to know of the details of all the other petitions (where, when, numbers, hyperlinks). For example, there has been the Obama Briefing Book ranking of 2008, the Australian petition, the British petition, the Curt West petition.

    Then we have the DoJ itself and Congress (e.g. the House Government and Oversight Committee (re corruption), Ways and Means (re IRS issues), and the Senate Judiciary committee (re the FBI).

    DM is not going to slime and sleaze his way out of this one this time. This is not a good year for dictators.

    It is now just 9 PM PST and the ticker reads 5, 149.

    Absolutely, push on to 'more than 9,000!' Not only to counter any argument as to any particular signature but also because the moar signatures the greater their wieght.

    I've had this idea for the past couple of days and I think it's high time it be put into action.

    We need to get in contact with Avaaz. http://www.avaaz.org/en/ They've shown to be wildly successful in spreading petitions and raising awareness on widespread issues from Wall Street to Rupert Murdoch to support for protestors in the Middle East. They have over ten million members worldwide.

    Imagine for a moment, if we got a petition in conjunction with this signed by even more people on an international scale. It will show the United States government that the rest of the world is watching and waiting for them to act. It will show that other people from other nations care and that this is a global issue, but the United States needs to take the lead and act.

    Because Scientology originated here, it is the responsibility of the United States to lead in action against it for it's widespread abuses.

    Speaking of which, would it be out of the realm of possibility to post the data for the graph after the 31st? It might not be such a bad idea to go over it with rates of votes per hour or whatever. It seems like you have a couple of varying different data points, so we'll have to take a look at it.

    I don't completely get what you mean. The per hour raw data are not so good, since I got unrealistic high values in cases where the time differed only by a minute. Could be recalculated to longer / standard time intervals, but I don't see the advantage. I'll post the data points below, so you can fiddle around yourself.
    Data beyond 1 month: The blue curve could be how it develops, but the upper asymptote varies still a lot - it's too early for a reasonable fit. In fact it should not be done, the upper asymptote jumps around between 8k and 40k signatures. I think 10k at day 30 could be possible.
