"74 NASA Scientists Been killed In The Last Two Years. What's Going On?
This is just one of the most recent cases of a prominent scientists suspicious death, over the past two years 74 leading medical and NASA scientists have died, almost all are officially labelled suicide or an accident. Glenn Thomas was a World Health Organisation spokesperson; he was reportedly an expert onEbola and AIDS, he was aboard MH17when it was shot down with approximately 100 other researchers."

"Gwen Olsen is the author of the award-winning book, "Confessions of an Rx Drug Pusher." A fifteen-year-veteran pharmaceutical rep, Gwen worked for McNeil Pharmaceutical, Syntex Laboratories, Bristol-Myers Squibb and others. She was a hospital rep and specialist rep for the majority of her career, selling prescription drugs to doctors.

Gwen joins us to share her unique industry insider’s perspective of the current US drug problem. She gives details about her awakening process that began with the realization that the information she was disseminating to doctors was extremely skewed, and later was ignited through a family member’s heartbreaking journey of becoming a mental health patient.

She explains her role as a marketing tool for Pharma, where successful drug sales are calculated through doctor profiling and often encouraged with extravagant perks to prescribing physicians. We discuss the corruption and money making interests of the rapidly expanding 300 billion dollar global pharmaceutical market, and Gwen breaks down the greatly slanted process of FDA drug approval."

I'm completely illogical, insane and irrational so you can fuck off about that...and I know you have it all wrong, you idiots.

The price of vitamins and holistic medicine are skyrocketing. The dirt poor get to eat Doritos and starve nutritionally now, wonder why that is.

Whoever did the magic school bus antivac thing - so clever to make everyone question their intelligence to promote an agenda. Fuckers are right in there with Bill Gates.

Was just reading some article today from and it's nice to see some are waking up.

    http://wakeup-world.com/2015/08/22/everything-is-fake-top-40-pieces-of-fakery-in-our-world/

Backing the Rockefeller’s Western medical Big Pharma cartel is a massive pile of fake scientific research. Like anything fake, the veneer looks shiny and leads you to believe what lies inside is trustworthy and reputable, when in reality it’s reams of biased and concocted research with a peer-reviewed stamp on it. Former Big Pharma reps, esteemed medical journal editors and even insider governmental scientists have all confessed the shocking truth that a large amount of the published scientific data out there is fraudulent and simply can’t be trusted. Check out the top 10 tricks used by corporate junk science.

    I'm quoting truth :)
  18. anon8109 Member

The Onion is a respectable satirical newspaper. It is not comparable to a woo-peddling site.
  19. chachacha Member

I imagine Tesla would have been considered "woo" as well at the time. lmfao
  20. chachacha Member

    Yes, it's a perfect comparison.
  21. Ersatz Global Moderator

    Isn't.
  22. chachacha Member

You seem to think your opinion, your word is enough. "Wake Up World = The Onion" - you believe this because ..... why?

"Not an apt comparison" to my "I imagine Tesla would have been considered "woo" as well at the time. lmfao"

What's the point of disagreeing? Is your unsubstantiated word supposed to be superior to any others? lol

And yet there is a huge increase in retracted scientific papers

    We have Retraction Watch:
    and from Physics Today:
    my bold

and from the New York Times

    my bold.

Something not good has been happening in science, if we have a ten fold increase in retracted papers.

Scientists are people, some good some bad. In any human endeavor there will be people who try to game the system for some personal advantage. The good thing here is that cheaters are caught and expelled, their careers ruined. Science is self-correcting because you can verify results, you don't have to take anyone's word for it. Eventually the truth always comes out.

Science used to be the exploration of reality.
    Now it's an industry.

Because, you know, we don't have anything to explore anymore, we have reached the limits of knowledge. Humans are the most evolved species. Why would we want to explore our kingdom ? It's already ours, we only have to monetize it.
If you don't think so, you're an idiot. Go watch TV, you'll learn the Truth.

    Huh? Epigenetics? TOE?
  27. Ethics Bait Member

So why was there a ten fold increase in retractions? What changed to cause this spike?

It's certainly not a new problem, but it seems to have gotten worse recently. That is interesting (in a bad way) and deserves some research as to what's going on.

As for self correcting, given time, yes. But that time frame might be measured in decades, which means we live for all those years with faulty research.

In any case, it's fascinating to watch how science works, and doesn't work.

    what  lol

Like some scientists say, it takes one generation of "lead scientists" to die for science to change.
  29. DeathHamster Member

Maybe people are now more inclined to point out when a paper is crap, and the peer-review before publishing hasn't caught up yet?
  30. BrainStorm Member

Or maybe there is a lot of fake sh*t out there that is created to defend big corps, like Monsanto and Coca Cola have been caught doing.
  31. Ethics Bait Member

That's one theory. Another possibility is that the internet makes it easier to check things out.

But in the retraction cases, it wasn't that the paper was bad science, it was that is was fraudulent. This should have been picked up before publication. Why wasn't it? What went wrong with the process?

Conspiracy theory, huh? Could be. But that still comes back to the peer review process. Even studies from big corporations are peer reviewed, or need to be, to be considered science.

I wonder if the issue is concentrated in certain fields. I'd also ask how much the publish or perish attitude is driving this increase.

Ah well, always more questions than answers.
  32. BrainStorm Member

Yea, must be a conspiracy theory, just don't read anything related to it. Ignorance is happiness.
Coca-Cola caught funding scientists who deflect blame for obesity away from sugary drinks http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...obesity-away-from-sugary-drinks-10448986.html

It is not who is doing the bad research, it is that it is happening at all, that concerns me. I see it being done by many groups, including gov, industry, and academics. This should concern all, not be cause for partisan bickering.

I'm aware of questionable research done by corporations.
I am also aware of questionable research done by gov. The food pyramid, for example.

This is an important issue, one that is critical for a society to come to terms with. To point out that one group does it, and ignore the other groups who do it, is to point out your own biases, nothing more.

    It was in response to

They were only examples, you are assuming too much I think.
But yea I agree, it is something that everyone should be concerned with.
We cannot expect truth or change from a corrupted system.

The studies I linked were not sponsored by industry, far as I can tell. They were academic papers that were fraudulent. So greed and profit doesn't come into play in these instances.

The Coke study is so obviously biased that an 11 year old could see it. A study on sugar by Coca Cola. Do you really need anyone to tell you there might be something suspect about that?

Bringing it up is a straw man, ignoring the serious scholarly studies that are showing up retracted.

What is driving that trend? Is it a trend? The NYT thinks so. That is what I wonder about. What is driving this increase? DH says maybe people have changed, more willing to point things out. I mentioned that the internet makes it easier to find bad studies.

BS says that corporations are behind it. But that ignores all the other studies that are academic and gov sponsored.

It'd be interesting to do a study on where the fraud occurs, whether in academia, gov or business, and do statistical analysis to see what comes out.Is it driven by the funding? Is it driven by the desire for tenure and a life long job? Is it all about pay raises? Is it ethics and morals? Or is it just something we now notice a lot more, due to more information.

anon8109 says it is self correcting, yet I've seen many papers still being cited after they've been exposed as frauds. That makes me wonder how robust the mechanism is.

There are a lot more pay-for-publish outfits these days, and they've been shown to be a joke when it comes to peer-review. (Not that we should have warm fuzzies about non pay-for-publish peer-review.)

A breakdown of the retractions by field, publication, etc, would be good.

It would have been hard to produce an accepted fraudulent scientific paper without a little help from something powerful.

They are generally shut down pretty quickly if they are only backed by science. Someone's got to impose them to the world.

Oh yeah, let's play connect the dots ! With a little bit of luck, I'm sure we'll end up with more questions (more questions, but more precise questions, that's a good thing).
